Chapter 267:
Trapped in the cramped space, Alicia felt searing pain coursing through her body. She couldn’t tell exactly where the injuries were.
Sirens wailed around her, echoing in the night.
Her head throbbed, and dizziness overwhelmed her. After some passersby pulled her from the wreckage, she found herself sitting on the roadside. Her vision blurred, and her heart raced.
A voice called out, “Ma’am? Can you hear me?”
She barely managed to open her eyes, struggling to focus. It took what felt like forever before the man’s face came into view.
He waved his hand at her and asked, “Are you alright?”
Alicia nodded and lowered her gaze to assess her injuries. She felt so numb from the cold that she couldn’t tell if her limbs were still intact. Panic crept in as she wondered if she had lost an arm or leg.
The man beside her said, “Your calf is injured, but it doesn’t seem too bad. I’ve already contacted your emergency contact. He’s coming to get you.”
Alicia processed the words slowly, trying to make sense of them. “My emergency contact?”
“Yes, the person listed as your emergency contact.”
Alicia froze for a moment. The man was talking about Caden.
Before she could say anything, the man quickly added, “Take care. There are more people who need help, and I have to assist them.”

Alicia nodded faintly, unsure of how to feel.
She didn’t want to face Caden, but the pounding in her head left her too weak to make the call herself. Without thinking, she wrapped her arms tightly around her body, trying to cover her bleeding calf.
All of a sudden, her phone buzzed.
She accepted the call, and Caden’s voice came through clearly. “How are you?”
Her voice was hoarse as she responded, “I’m fine. It’s just a minor injury.”
“I’ve already called the police. They’ll come to get you soon. Yolanda took the wrong medication, and her condition is critical. I need to return to the hospital now.”
Caden spoke, but Alicia said nothing in response. She didn’t even feel like speaking anymore.
Caden continued, “You understand how important Yolanda is, right? I can’t let anything happen to her.”
Alicia’s face went pale. She had no idea how important Yolanda was supposed to be. What she did know was that Caden made her feel sick in that moment.
Unable to hold back, she said, “Caden, just go and do whatever you want. Why call me just to make me feel worse?”
Caden remained quiet for a few moments. The tension between them through the phone felt like a spark waiting to set off an explosion.
