I am The Dominant Alpha - Chapter 99

Chapter 99:

A proud fighter from Ashfire. Jarek had always been loyal to Talon Pack, but he’d made no secret of his discomfort with the alliance, his doubts clear in every sidelong glance he cast at the Ashfire wolves.

“Is there a problem?” I asked, stepping closer, my gaze sharp.

Jarek hesitated, his eyes shifting between me and Vira.

“No, Alpha… it’s just… I’m not sure I trust this alliance. I don’t see why we need them when Talon Pack has always stood strong on its own.”

His words carried a hint of defiance, and I could feel the tension in the air as the nearby wolves turned to listen. I kept my voice calm, steady.

“Jarek, I understand that this alliance is difficult for some of you. But we have a choice to make—either we trust each other completely, or we go into battle divided. And a divided pack will fall.”

Vira met Jarek’s gaze, her expression fierce but composed.

“You may not trust me, Jarek, but I have no doubts about my loyalty to this alliance. I’m here to fight beside you, not against you.”

There was a flicker of hesitation in Jarek’s eyes, a brief moment where I saw the doubt falter. But then he nodded, his expression resigned, as if acknowledging the truth in her words.

The exercise continued, and I kept a close eye on Jarek and the other wolves who had shown signs of hesitation. This was their chance to prove themselves, to overcome their doubts or risk the unity of the pack. And as the day wore on, I saw the transformation take root, the wariness fading as trust began to replace fear.

By the afternoon, we moved into the final phase of the test—a challenge that required each pair to face a mock battle against two other wolves, working in tandem to protect each other and overpower their opponents. This was where the real test of loyalty would emerge, where each wolf would be forced to rely on their partner with a depth of trust that would reveal any lingering doubts.

As the pairs moved into position, I watched them, my heart racing with anticipation, hoping to see the unity we needed but bracing for any sign of fracture.

Lyle and Rhea moved in perfect synchrony, their attacks coordinated, their defenses impenetrable. They fought with a determination that was breathtaking, their bond clear in every move they made. I could see the pride in Lyle’s eyes, the way he trusted Rhea implicitly, his loyalty to the alliance unwavering.

Elsewhere, I saw other pairs moving with similar unity, their loyalty and trust transforming them into formidable forces. Wolves who had once been wary of each other were now fighting side by side, their loyalty forged through sweat, determination, and a shared commitment to our cause.

And then I saw Jarek. He was fighting alongside Vira, their movements clumsy, their coordination faltering. It was clear he was still holding back, his distrust a barrier that kept him from fully committing to the alliance. Vira fought with fierce determination, her loyalty evident in every move, but Jarek’s hesitation left her exposed, vulnerable.

I stepped forward, my voice sharp as I addressed him.

“Jarek! This is not the time for doubts. Either you commit to this alliance, or you step aside.”

He froze, his face paling as he met my gaze. For a moment, I saw the conflict in his eyes, the struggle between his pride and his sense of duty to the pack. But then, slowly, he nodded, a new resolve settling over him.

With renewed focus, he turned to Vira, a look of apology in his eyes, and they resumed their fight, this time with a unity that surprised even me. They moved together, their defenses stronger, their attacks more coordinated. By the end of the challenge, they stood victorious, breathing hard but united in a way I hadn’t thought possible.

As the exercise concluded, I gathered the wolves together, my heart swelling with pride as I looked over them. They were exhausted, bruised, but there was a light in their eyes, a strength that came from knowing they had overcome their doubts, that they had chosen loyalty over fear.

“You’ve proven yourselves today,” I said, my voice filled with the pride I felt.

“Each of you has shown that you are more than just warriors. You are a united pack. When Silas comes, he will not find a fractured force—he will find a family, bound by trust and loyalty.”

The night I left Talon Pack still haunted me. It was a wound that had never fully healed, the scar of a choice I wasn’t sure had even been mine to make. Betrayal had a way of warping everything, turning what was once familiar into something alien and unrecognizable. Leaving had felt like both the ultimate act of selfishness and a necessary sacrifice to protect the pack I had once called family. Even now, I couldn’t decide if it was ambition or loyalty that had driven me away. For weeks, I’d battled the tension within the pack—the constant push and pull between my vision for its future and the council’s devotion to tradition. The elders saw my instincts, my drive to lead, as dangerous. I told myself I wanted to protect Talon Pack, to guide it toward a better future, but there were moments—quiet, biting moments—when I wondered if it was my pride whispering those promises, not my heart.
