I am The Dominant Alpha - Chapter 65

Chapter 65:

Finally, he broke the silence.

“I thought you might need some time alone. I didn’t mean to intrude.”

I shook my head, turning to face him fully.

“No, it’s… it’s all right.” I hesitated, the tension from the day lingering in my muscles, a mix of pride and fatigue weighing heavily on me.

“The trials were… intense.”

He nodded, a hint of admiration in his eyes.

“You proved yourself today, Elara. I think the pack needed to see it as much as you did.”

A small, weary smile tugged at my lips.

“I suppose so. But I know it’s only the beginning. Earning their trust—it’s not something I can accomplish in one day.”

His gaze softened.

“Trust is a journey. And you’ve taken the first steps. More than that, you’ve shown them what kind of leader you are.”

I felt a warmth in his words, an encouragement that was unexpected. Despite the tensions, the doubts, and the wounds of the past, there was something undeniable about the connection between us—a bond that went beyond simple loyalty or shared history. It was like a thread binding us, one that had existed long before he’d returned, long before I’d even taken on the role of Alpha.

“I still don’t understand it,” I admitted, looking out over the valley, my voice barely more than a whisper.

“This bond between us. It’s… confusing. I never wanted it, Dante. But I feel it every time we’re near each other, and it only seems to grow stronger.”

He took a step closer, his gaze never leaving mine.

“I feel it too. And you’re not alone in wondering what it means, why it’s there. I didn’t ask for it either, Elara. But the bond doesn’t care about what we want.”

The words hung heavily between us, the reality of our connection settling over me. I had tried so hard to resist it, to ignore the pull, but it was as if fate had wound us together, refusing to let us go our separate ways. It was a connection that felt both reassuring and terrifying, a reminder that even as I fought for my pack’s loyalty, my heart wrestled with its own loyalty—to him.

“You’re right,” I murmured, barely meeting his gaze.

“But it complicates everything, doesn’t it? My role, the pack… our past. It’s like I can’t find solid ground when you’re near.” He closed the distance between us, his presence grounding yet electrifying.

“You may not find solid ground, but maybe you don’t need it. Maybe this bond, whatever it is, doesn’t have to be a weakness. Maybe it can be strength.”

I looked up at him, a mixture of disbelief and something close to hope flaring in my chest.

“How can something so uncertain be a strength?”

He reached out, his hand resting on my shoulder, warm and steady.

“Because you’re not facing this alone, Elara. Because when you feel doubt, or fear, or uncertainty, you have someone to share that burden with.” His voice softened, a raw honesty slipping into his tone.

“We are stronger together, even if we don’t understand why.” The warmth of his hand on my shoulder sent a shiver through me, and I felt the bond between us pulse, almost as if it had a life of its own. In that moment, the weight of the day seemed to fall away, the doubts, the fears fading into the background. All I felt was his presence, the calm assurance that he was here, that he understood, and that he wasn’t going anywhere.

“Maybe,” I said softly, allowing myself to lean into his touch, just for a moment.

“Maybe you’re right.”

His gaze searched mine, and for the first time, I saw a vulnerability there—a glimpse of the man beneath the guarded exterior, the one who had faced his own share of battles, both inside and out. In that moment, I felt the depth of our bond as something unbreakable, something forged not just by fate but by shared struggle, by a loyalty that ran deeper than either of us could fully grasp.

The night I left Talon Pack still haunted me. It was a wound that had never fully healed, the scar of a choice I wasn’t sure had even been mine to make. Betrayal had a way of warping everything, turning what was once familiar into something alien and unrecognizable. Leaving had felt like both the ultimate act of selfishness and a necessary sacrifice to protect the pack I had once called family. Even now, I couldn’t decide if it was ambition or loyalty that had driven me away. For weeks, I’d battled the tension within the pack—the constant push and pull between my vision for its future and the council’s devotion to tradition. The elders saw my instincts, my drive to lead, as dangerous. I told myself I wanted to protect Talon Pack, to guide it toward a better future, but there were moments—quiet, biting moments—when I wondered if it was my pride whispering those promises, not my heart.
