I am The Dominant Alpha - Chapter 101

Chapter 101:

“I was tasked with scouting ahead, but I saw an opportunity—a chance to strike and show my strength, to prove myself in a way I thought would earn me respect. I ignored my orders, charging into the fray alone, convinced I could handle it.”

He shook his head, the shame clear in his eyes.

“But I was wrong. My decision nearly cost the lives of the wolves who came to save me. And in the end, it did cost the life of a close friend, a warrior who stepped in to protect me when I was cornered.”

A murmur of shock rippled through the crowd, and I could see some wolves exchanging glances, the realization of the consequences Dante’s actions had brought sinking in. But he continued, his voice filled with honesty and remorse.

“My arrogance, my need to prove myself, put the entire pack at risk. And for that, I was banished. I spent years alone, haunted by my mistakes, trying to understand who I was without the pack that had defined me. But in the end, I realized that Talon Pack was more than just a place—it was my family, the wolves I would give my life to protect. So I returned, knowing that I may never earn back your trust, but determined to serve, even if from a distance.” He looked over the pack, his gaze filled with a fierce sincerity that left no room for doubt.

“I returned because I love this pack, because I owe it to those I failed to make things right. I am not the wolf I was back then, and I am here to serve, to fight, and, if necessary, to die for each of you.”

A heavy silence fell over the crowd, the weight of Dante’s words settling over them. I could see the shift in their expressions, the understanding and empathy beginning to bloom in their eyes. Wolves who had once viewed him with suspicion now looked at him with a new respect, a recognition of the burden he carried and the strength it had taken to return.

One of the older wolves, Cedric, stepped forward, his gaze fixed on Dante.

“It takes courage to admit one’s mistakes, and even more to return to the place that holds those memories. You may have made mistakes, Dante, but you’ve proven your loyalty through your actions, and that is something we respect.”

Others murmured in agreement, nodding, their expressions softening. I felt a swell of pride, not only in Dante but in the pack itself—for their willingness to forgive, to see the wolf he had become rather than the mistakes of his past.

Dante’s gaze met mine, a quiet gratitude in his eyes, and I gave him a small nod, my heart filled with relief. This was the redemption he had sought, the acceptance he had needed, and I knew that, finally, the ghosts of his past had begun to release their hold.

The wolves began to disperse, a sense of peace settling over the compound as they returned to their routines. But a new bond had been forged tonight, a trust that went beyond loyalty to each other—it was a belief in the strength of redemption, in the idea that even the deepest wounds could heal with time and forgiveness.

As the crowd thinned, Dante and I remained, standing side by side in the quiet of the evening. The stars began to emerge overhead, casting a soft glow over the compound, and I felt a sense of peace settle within me, a quiet certainty that we had taken a step forward as a pack, united in a way that even Silas couldn’t touch.

“Thank you,” Dante said softly, his gaze fixed on the stars.

“For giving me this chance. For believing in me.”

I looked at him, feeling the depth of his gratitude, the weight of his past lifting as he stood beside me.

“You’ve earned it, Dante. Every wolf here sees it now.”

He smiled, a small, genuine smile that held years of healing in its warmth.

“I never thought I’d find a place here again. But you… you showed me that even a wolf who’s lost everything can find a way back.”

I placed a hand on his shoulder, a silent acknowledgment of the journey he had taken, of the strength it had required.

“This pack is your family, Dante. You belong here, now and always.”

Together, we stood in the quiet, the bonds of the pack surrounding us, unbreakable and true. In that moment, I knew that whatever came, whatever battles we faced, we would face them together, stronger than ever.

The night I left Talon Pack still haunted me. It was a wound that had never fully healed, the scar of a choice I wasn’t sure had even been mine to make. Betrayal had a way of warping everything, turning what was once familiar into something alien and unrecognizable. Leaving had felt like both the ultimate act of selfishness and a necessary sacrifice to protect the pack I had once called family. Even now, I couldn’t decide if it was ambition or loyalty that had driven me away. For weeks, I’d battled the tension within the pack—the constant push and pull between my vision for its future and the council’s devotion to tradition. The elders saw my instincts, my drive to lead, as dangerous. I told myself I wanted to protect Talon Pack, to guide it toward a better future, but there were moments—quiet, biting moments—when I wondered if it was my pride whispering those promises, not my heart.
