Chapter 1893:
Leaning back in his chair, Baker allowed his grin to widen. “She went to Belinda’s house today. Everything had been prepared well in advance. She slipped a little something into Belinda’s glass of juice. Once Belinda drinks it, she’ll be completely ruined.”
Kylee’s eyes lit up at that, excitement sparking across her face. She leaned forward, her tone eager. “What kind of drug did Mom use?”
“That,” Baker said mysteriously, “is for your mother to tell you. Once it succeeds, you’ll hear it directly from her.”
His expression softened for a moment. He reached out, his hand brushing hers with deliberate affection. “Kylee, everything your mother does, she does for you. She loves you more than her own life. Don’t forget that. You must appreciate her efforts.”
“I know,” Kylee nodded quickly.
Holley had always been good to her.
If their family survived this storm, she silently vowed to take good care of her parents for the rest of her life.
In the evening, Lucas returned home.
His steps were brisk, his expression unreadable as he went straight to the bedroom.
Inside, Belinda lay curled on the sofa, her eyes closed, a soft piano melody drifting from the speakers.
The notes seemed to carry her away until the sound of the door opening pulled her back.
Her lashes fluttered open. When she saw Lucas, she pouted lightly, then lifted her arms toward him in silent request.
Without hesitation, Lucas crossed the room and pulled her into his embrace.
His hand threaded gently through her hair, his voice a low murmur against her ear. “I already know what happened today.”

Nestled in his arms, Belinda let out a short, cold laugh. “So our suspicions were right. That black-market purchase Holley made—it was meant for me.”
For days, Lucas had kept a watchful net around Holley, Baker, and Kylee, placing discreet eyes on their every move.
He had expected desperation from them, some reckless gamble.
They had not disappointed.
Holley’s shady transaction had confirmed his suspicions. The woman had spent a fortune on some kind of drug. That alone had been enough to raise alarms.
Lucas had gone further, installing miniature cameras throughout the house—everywhere except the bathrooms and bedrooms—waiting for Holley to show up.
And she did.
That drug was indeed meant for Belinda.
“The lab results will be out tomorrow,” Lucas said quietly.
Belinda pulled back from his chest, her eyes narrowing with a sharp gleam. “Good. I want to know exactly what she was planning to do to me.”
