Chapter 1847:
“Aunt Carola… are you saying there’s solid proof now that Baker tampered with the paternity test results?”
Carola gave a firm nod.
“Yes. The Wright family has already uncovered the evidence.”
A flicker of something unreadable passed across Galen’s face. Then he gave a cold laugh.
“Well. This just got interesting.”
From the side, Mose leaned forward curiously.
“Tell me something, Carola. Have you found anything amiss?”
Carola bit her lip. Her eyes even seemed to dull with remembered pain.
“Elwood’s mother has been insisting from the beginning that the baby isn’t his, that it must have been someone else’s. But I swear, I have never been with another man. Elwood is the only one.”
Saniya’s voice cut through the weighty silence.
“What other man? Carola, how did you and Elwood even break up back then?”
Carola lowered her gaze. That incident had always been a painful thorn in her heart.
She inhaled slowly, then spoke, quieter this time.
“I was still dating Elwood at that time. One afternoon, I got a strange message out of nowhere. It said Elwood was at the Cloud Boat Hotel with another woman; it even listed the room number. And then, just moments later, a photo followed from the same number. In the photo, I could see Elwood’s back; he was stepping into room 1702.”
After a pause, she continued, “I was unable to stay calm after that. I tried calling him right away, but his phone was off. After debating with myself for a while, I decided to go to the hotel. But when I got to the 17th floor, I had barely taken a few steps out of the elevator when someone knocked me out from behind.”
Her expression twisted, anguish breaking across her face as she closed her eyes.
“When I woke up, I was naked. In a strange bed. And beside me was a man I didn’t know.”

The room fell into stunned silence at that.
“I didn’t even have time to scream,” Carola continued.
“The door burst open—and in came Elwood, Tamara, and Nalani. They saw me like that, and they didn’t listen to my explanation. I begged them to listen, tried to tell them I didn’t know who the man was, that I was set up. But… no one believed me. They all thought I had cheated on Elwood.”
“Back then, I woke up with strange kiss marks on my neck and chest, and I had no way to explain them. I knew my own body, though—I was certain I hadn’t been intimate with anyone else. But no one believed me. Elwood just stared at me with this mix of disappointment and revulsion before he walked away. The next day, he ended things with me.”
Carola’s voice quivered as she recounted the painful memory.
Saniya’s face flushed with rage when she heard that.
“Elwood didn’t give you even a little bit of trust? You told him you were set up, and he didn’t bother to investigate—just dumped you like that?”
Carola let out a bitter, self-mocking laugh.
