Belinda’s brow arched slightly.
“Are you referring to the fact that you are Carola and Elwood’s biological daughter?” Kylee’s eyes narrowed.
“So you are aware.”
Belinda remained unfazed.
“Yes, Elwood filled me in. What are you trying to convey?”
She paused, then let out a sharp, mocking laugh.
“What, are you here to brag about your prestigious family ties?”
Kylee’s face tightened briefly before she regained her composure.
“I want you to stay away from my parents from now on. I know you’re close to them, and they… they think highly of you. But let’s be clear, Belinda—they are my parents, my family. You have no ties to them!”
Her voice grew colder as she emphasized, “Given how we’re at odds, you’d better keep your distance from my family. Otherwise, I’ll feel very uncomfortable!”
Belinda’s anger flared as she shot back, “You can feel uncomfortable all you want; that’s not my problem. And do you think you can dictate what I do? Who I associate with is my choice. If you don’t want your parents to get close to me, you should talk to them about this, not me.”
She then fixed Kylee with a piercing stare, her tone laced with skepticism.
“And besides… are you really Carola and Elwood’s biological daughter?”
At Belinda’s words, Kylee’s pupils constricted. For a split second, her composure cracked.
The change was fleeting, gone almost before it appeared, but Belinda still caught it. She had been watching Kylee carefully.
Her mind flicked back to yesterday, to that strange shift in Nalani’s demeanor when Kylee’s name came up—specifically, when she mentioned Kylee as Elwood’s daughter. Something about it had struck her as off, just enough to plant a seed of suspicion.
Now, after this little exchange, that suspicion bloomed. She was certain. Kylee was hiding something about her parentage.
Kylee’s glare burned hot, her voice rising.

“What exactly are you implying?” she snapped.
“Face it, Belinda, you are green with jealousy—jealous of my parents’ prestige.”
Her eyes glinted with disdain as she sneered, “And you? You are just the daughter of a homewrecker and a father who is painfully mediocre.”
The insults rolled off Belinda untouched.
That was the thing about the truth—it lost its sting when you owned it. Yes, her mother had been a homewrecker. Yes, her father was an ordinary person. She had made peace with it long ago. As for jealousy?
Sure, she had felt it. She was human. But that was not what this was.
No, this was Kylee’s panic masquerading as rage. The more she lashed out, the more certain Belinda became that she was hiding something.
Belinda chuckled under her breath.
“You know very well whether you are really their biological daughter,” she said.
Kylee’s voice shot up an octave, sharp with anger.
