Elwood didn’t hesitate, laying out the facts with stark clarity. “After Carola and I parted ways, she quickly married Baker. That raised red flags for me. Then I learned she got pregnant soon after the wedding, which only fueled my suspicions. I had someone discreetly collect a sample of Kylee’s blood and run a paternity test against mine. The results confirmed Kylee is my biological daughter.”
After hearing Elwood’s account, Zaria instinctively wanted to shout that the paternity test results must be forged.
But she bit her tongue, unable to voice her doubts without revealing the secret test she had done.
Her mind raced, searching for a way to subtly challenge the claim. Just then, Tamara spoke up again. “That is utterly ridiculous!”
Tamara’s voice was firm, her gaze unwavering as she said to Elwood, “I can say with absolute certainty that you’ve been deceived. That paternity test in your possession is fabricated. Kylee cannot possibly be your daughter.”
Elwood’s face shifted, a mix of shock and defiance. He leaned forward, his voice sharp. “Why is that, Mom?”
Zaria, standing off to the side, was equally surprised. Why was Tamara so sure? Could it be that she knew some hidden truth?
Nalani jumped in, her tone steady but heavy with revelation. “Because back when we heard Carola was pregnant, Mom and I wondered if her baby could be yours. So, soon after Kylee was born, Mom secretly obtained a sample of her blood and had it tested against yours. The results declared there was no blood relation whatsoever.”
Elwood’s expression crumpled. He felt as if he were suddenly struck by lightning.
He stood frozen, grappling with the revelation.
Shaking his head, he muttered, “No, that can’t be right. Kylee is my daughter. She’s the daughter of Carola and me!”
Nalani held his gaze, her voice resolute. “Elwood, you’ve been deceived. Mom was meticulous—she double-checked the blood samples to avoid any errors. She even had the test run by three separate labs. The final results all confirmed that you and Kylee are not biologically related.”
