“Alright,” Nalani said curtly before hanging up.
Belinda pocketed her phone and stepped out of her office, only to freeze when she saw the person waiting for her.
It was Nalani.
Nalani said pointedly, “Where’s this patient keeping you so busy? I would like to see them.”
Belinda bit her lip, momentarily speechless. Could the situation get any more awkward?
She lowered her gaze.
Nalani continued, “So, do you have time to grab lunch with me now?”
With Nalani already here, Belinda knew that refusal wasn’t an option.
She blinked and said, “Okay. Give me five minutes. I haven’t clocked out yet.”
Nalani’s expression softened slightly at Belinda’s agreement.
“I’ll wait in the parking lot. Come down when you’re ready.”
“Okay.”
Nalani left. Once Belinda’s shift ended, she changed in the locker room and took the elevator to the parking lot.
They then chose a nearby restaurant to eat.
In a private dining room, after ordering, Nalani said to Belinda, “What’s going on with you? Why are you suddenly avoiding me?”
Nalani had undoubtedly noticed that Belinda had been intentionally keeping her distance from her.
Not only did Belinda decline invitations to share meals, but their conversations also lacked the warmth and playful exchanges of the past.
This prompted Nalani to make a purposeful visit to the Grand Plains General Hospital that day, determined to uncover the cause of Belinda’s change in demeanor. She was certain something had happened.
