Her words caused Elwood’s expression to darken with displeasure. He found both her tone and her underlying implications deeply offensive.
He looked at Kylee and said, “You do possess complete knowledge of why Lucas chose to target your father’s company, don’t you?”
Kylee was taken aback by his question, falling silent. Her telling reaction provided Elwood with all the confirmation he needed.
His features hardened as he delivered his words with unwavering certainty. “Since you understand the underlying reasons, you should also comprehend that your father brought that on himself. His company’s current predicament stems directly from his past actions, and no amount of external intervention can undo the consequences he must now face.”
Elwood was stunned by Kylee’s harsh words. He stared at her, wide-eyed, and asked, “Why? What happened between you and Belinda?”
Whenever Belinda mentioned Kylee, her expression clouded with bitterness. Now, hearing Kylee’s venomous wish for Belinda’s death, Elwood felt his shock deepen, his curiosity piqued.
Kylee’s face was a storm of resentment. She hesitated to reveal the painful truth—a wound that festered endlessly, one she bore like a permanent scar. But knowing Elwood was soon to be her father and that she still relied on the Wright family’s support for her condition, she steeled herself and decided to tell him.
With a heavy breath, she said, “I’m HIV positive.”
“What?” Elwood’s expression shifted in an instant. He gazed at Kylee, grappling with disbelief, struggling to process her words. HIV positive? Wasn’t that AIDS? How could this be?
Kylee’s lips trembled, her voice sharp with pain. “The ones who caused this are Belinda and Lucas! Lucas had someone deliberately taint my wound with HIV-infected blood, and that’s how I got it! So, tell me, who’s to blame for my suffering? Shouldn’t I hate them?”
Her words carried the weight of raw desperation. Elwood’s face darkened further, his mind reeling. He could never have fathomed something like this had happened between Kylee and Belinda. His own daughter was afflicted with HIV. The thought overwhelmed him, leaving him at a loss for words, his mind a chaotic whirl.

Elwood, keeping his tone steady, replied, “I’m just trying to understand the situation.”
Kylee’s anger surged further. Given Elwood’s guilt and eagerness to embrace her as his daughter, she had expected him to be livid, ready to storm off and confront Belinda and Lucas. How could he stay so composed, even probing for details of the matter? Clenching her jaw, Kylee snapped, “I’m done talking about it! This pain will haunt me forever!”
She fixed Elwood with an icy stare, her words laced with a warning. “If you still keep things friendly with Belinda and Lucas, I will never acknowledge you as my father! I don’t need a father like you!”
Without giving him a chance to reply, Kylee shot to her feet, snatched her bag, and stormed out.
