Seeing Lucas getting emotional, Belinda reached out, gently pressing her hand to his chest to soothe him. “Okay, okay, I get it. I shouldn’t have acted recklessly. Please don’t be upset, alright? At least things turned out okay this time, didn’t they?”
Despite her words, she couldn’t deny that Lucas had a point.
The first two robbers were mediocre at best with their fighting skills, but the third? He was clearly well-trained in fighting, and his strength was formidable. Truthfully, if she hadn’t resorted to a clever maneuver, she might not have taken him down successfully.
But she kept that to herself, not wanting to worry Lucas further.
Lucas looked at her, his frustration still simmering.
“Please, don’t be mad. Look. I’m completely fine,” Belinda said softly, trying to comfort him.
Lucas didn’t respond, instead pulling her closer into his embrace.
After a while, his voice was low and rough as he murmured, “If anything like this happens again, I just wish you would think of yourself first and stay safe. Your well-being means more than anything.”
Deep down, though, Lucas knew that was a futile hope.
Belinda remained silent, simply burrowing deeper into his arms.
Letting out a quiet sigh, Lucas said nothing more.
Thankfully, Belinda was unharmed this time.
That night, wrapped in Lucas’ arms, Belinda slept soundly.
She had thought she’d dream about what had happened that day, but surprisingly, she didn’t have a single dream and slept straight through until morning.
Belinda might have slept well, but two others lay awake, their minds restless through the night.

“No need for that. I’ll have the maid at home bring something,” Carola replied, her face indifferent, brushing off the offer.
Kylee felt a pang of helplessness at her mother’s dismissal. After a moment, she nodded, “Alright, I’ll call the maid then.”
After arranging for food to be delivered, Kylee settled into a chair beside Carola’s hospital bed.
Hesitantly, she asked, “Mom, are you still upset with me?”
