Barbara pouted teasingly. “Well, you are like a sister to me. Why didn’t we meet sooner?”
Belinda’s smile widened. “Fate’s funny like that. Some people you know for years stay strangers, but others, in just weeks or months, make you feel like you can share your heart with them.”
Barbara beamed, nodding. “Exactly. Like Zaria—I’ve known her since we were kids, but I just can’t connect with her. But with you, Belinda, I feel so comfortable, and I love hanging out with you.”
“I love spending time with you, too. When we get a chance, I’ll introduce you to my two close friends for a meal,” Belinda replied.
“Awesome!” Barbara chirped, her face lighting up.
Seeing Barbara so happy, Nalani felt her heart swell with emotion. It had been ages since her daughter looked this happy. All of this was thanks to Belinda. She was truly grateful to her.
In a private dining room at a restaurant, Lucas had invited Vincent and Johnson for dinner. Throughout the meal, Lucas seemed preoccupied, his mind elsewhere.
Vincent and Johnson exchanged a glance, picking up on his distraction. Johnson spoke up first. “Lucas, what’s wrong? Did something happen between you and Belinda?”
Lucas shook his head. “No, it’s not that.”

Lucas leaned forward, his voice low and deliberate. “Answer me this, Vincent. Do you reckon Faye has… feelings for me?”
Vincent’s jaw dropped, his eyes wide with shock. “What in the world?” For a moment, he questioned his own ears, wondering if he’d misheard Lucas entirely.
Johnson, however, fixed Lucas with a steady, thoughtful stare, his brow creasing. Belinda must have said something to spark this, Johnson thought, his mind racing. Otherwise, why would Lucas even ask such a thing?
Lucas’ gaze sharpened. “Come on, Vincent. I need your take on this.”
Vincent rubbed the back of his neck, his brows knitting together. “Well, Faye’s always hanging around you, real affectionate-like. But she’s your niece, man. Being clingy doesn’t mean she’s… you know, into you. Maybe she just doesn’t get boundaries.”
Lucas shifted his attention to Johnson, his expression unreadable. “And you, Johnson? What do you think?”
Johnson hesitated, his fingers drumming lightly on the table. “I’m not sure what to say, honestly. But Belinda, Bethany, and Cathy—they’ve all brought it up. If it’s just one person, you can shrug it off as overthinking. But three? That’s something you cannot ignore. Besides, women pick up on these things. Their intuitions are usually dead-on.”
