But Belinda’s voice, laced with subtle irony, cut through the phone like a blade. “I’m sorry, but I’m just not hearing any sincerity in your apology.”
Sarai fell silent, momentarily stunned. A few seconds later, a faint sniffle crackled through the line.
“Belinda,” she said, her voice trembling, “I know that what I did shattered your trust and broke your heart. You probably don’t believe a single word I say now, and you have every reason not to. I get it. I’ve brought this all on myself. I have no one else to blame. But Belinda… please believe me when I say that I finally see the full weight of my mistakes. I’m not just saying this; I truly mean it this time.”
Then, Sarai seemed to make up her mind about something.
“Belinda.” She paused, taking a shaky breath to steady herself. “There’s something you don’t know—something I have to tell you! You know how I always claimed that Holley helped me because I caught her in an affair? That wasn’t the truth. The real reason she agreed to help me was… when we were children, I saw her injecting something into you. That’s the secret I held over her head. That’s what I used to control her.”
Her voice was firm when she continued, “You remember your unexplained weight gain back then; the doctors chalked it up to hormones, right? Well, I think it might be related to what Holley was injecting into you!”
Her voice trembled, carrying a mixture of rage and desperation as she finally told Belinda the truth.
Belinda’s pupils contracted sharply at her words. It seemed her earlier suspicions were right all along.

Belinda, please… just be careful. Don’t trust Holley. I don’t want you to get hurt again.” Her voice was soft, layered with feigned concern.
But the more she spoke, the more hollow it all sounded to Belinda.
