Darwin held his gaze, his smile unshaken but tight at the edges. “I hear you loud and clear, Mr. Clark.”
No more words passed between them.
Lucas didn’t push it. They were smart enough to leave some things unspoken.
When Belinda returned, her eyes flicked between the two men, sensing the undercurrent of tension that rippled beneath their composed facades. She raised an eyebrow in curiosity, but she held her tongue.
After finishing the meal, they prepared to leave.
They stepped out of the restaurant into the cool night air, the city’s hum swallowing the echoes of their farewell.
On the way back, Belinda broke the silence in the car, her voice soft but probing. “Lucas, when I stepped out of the private room, did you and Darwin talk about something?”
Lucas arched a brow ever so slightly. “Nothing much—just thanked him again, that’s all.”
Belinda narrowed her beautiful eyes, studying him with subtle suspicion. Was that really the truth? Why did it feel so hard to believe?
As they paused at a red light, Lucas turned toward her, his gaze sharpening with quiet seriousness. “Belinda,” he said, his tone low. “From now on, unless it’s absolutely necessary, I want you to keep your distance from Darwin.”
“Why?” she asked, her voice more curious than defensive.
“Because watching you talk and share meals with another man makes me jealous,” Lucas replied. He said it without hesitation, with the calm confidence of someone who had no intention of hiding his emotions.
Belinda couldn’t help it; she burst into laughter, the sound light and melodic as she quickly covered her mouth. The blunt honesty, the raw possessiveness—it was oddly charming. This side of Lucas was unexpectedly cute.
Once her laughter settled, she nodded, her voice light with affection. “You don’t need to tell me that. I know where the lines are. Don’t worry.”
Satisfied with her answer, Lucas offered a smile.

Later that evening, after some time spent chatting with Gwenda, they returned to their bedroom.
As they lay in bed, Lucas wrapped an arm around Belinda’s waist, drawing her close. He brushed a tender kiss against her lips and murmured in her ear, “This time, no one’s going to interrupt us.”
“Don’t jinx it,” Belinda teased, flashing him a playful glare.
Lucas chuckled, his tone low and teasing. “Fine. I won’t say it… I’ll just show you.”
With that, he leaned in and captured her lips in a kiss. His desire poured into it—ardent, raw, and consuming.
Belinda closed her eyes, surrendering to the kiss. She wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him closer as she responded passionately.
Her breath hitched as his fingers deftly undid the buttons of her nightgown. In moments, nothing stood between them. Only bare skin, quickened heartbeats, and the heated tangle of limbs remained.
