Chapter 79:
“Mr. Kennedy, according to the information, Asst. Wilson was kidnapped and sold once when she was a little girl.”
When Nathan’s words were finished, Kennedy happened to see the place he was talking about.
“Because Attendant Wilson was different from other children, she was locked alone in a small dark room. The police said she was locked in the room for three days, without food or water, and no one came to her.” Hearing this, Kennedy’s hand tightened silently.
“Three days later the traffickers came in and beat her. By the time the police found her, Asst. Wilson was already dying, and it took them a long time to save her.”
Speaking here, Nathan paused and said, “At the time, Asst. Wilson was only four or five years old.”
Kennedy felt as if something had hit his heart hard and he crumpled the documents into a ball. Nathan remembered, “Mr. Kennedy, are you all right?”
At this word, Kennedy’s eyes changed and fixed on Nathan. Nathan did not dare to speak immediately.
“Asst. Wilson was locked in the house yesterday. After the blackout, the darkness in the room probably made her remember that moment, that’s why she looked like this.”
Such an experience was desperate for a four- or five-year-old girl at the time. What state of mind was she in to get through it?
Kennedy suddenly thought of the bewildered eyes when he heard her being told to leave the Moore Family, and later talked to him about staying. “Go to the hospital.”
Kennedy tossed the papers aside, then rolled the wheelchair to the outside.
At the hospital.
Charlotte had slept through the night. Nanny Chan watched her all night, but didn’t see her eyes open. The doctor came to check her condition and gave her an infusion.
Then Kennedy arrived and Nanny Chan got up.
“Mr. Kennedy, you are here.”
“Nanny Chan, has she woken up?”
Nanny Chan shook her head, “No, I’ve been keeping watch here all night, Miss Moore hasn’t opened her eyes.”
Hearing her words, Kennedy was surprised.
“But the doctor came to see and said her emotions have recovered. Everything is normal, and she should be able to wake up soon.”
He added, “I think the doctor is right. Since Miss Moore will soon be awake, I’ll go back and get some fresh food.”
“Mm.” Kennedy replied in a hoarse voice.
Nathan’s voice was hoarse too, “Nanny Chan, you’ve been up all night, let me take you back.”
“No, no, I’ll take a bus. I’ll be there soon. You and Mr. Kennedy have big dark circles under your eyes, haven’t you had a full night’s rest?”
Sure Nathan didn’t sleep last night, but didn’t Kennedy sleep all night too?
Nathan moved his body forward to check Kennedy’s dark circles under his eyes.
“Are you looking to get yourself killed?” However, when he just put his head in front of him, Kennedy’s grim gaze landed on his face, and Nathan immediately recoiled.
“You haven’t slept because of Asst. Wilson?” Kennedy furrowed his eyebrows.
“Mr. Kennedy, have you noticed that you treat Assistant Wilson…”
“What do you mean?” Kennedy’s voice was cold and arrogant.
Nathan licked his lips and said nervously, “Mr. Kennedy ……Do you like Asst. Wilson?”
Kennedy’s pupils shrank, he turned sharply and glared at Nathan.
Nathan took a big step backward. He was so nervous his forehead was sweating, “Mr. Kennedy, I was just kidding!”
Kennedy said nothing, but his expression and eyes were clearly fiercer.
Nathan suddenly regretted it and swallowed a mouthful of saliva.
“If you don’t like Assistant Wilson, you can deny it.”
Nathan heard the sound of creaking joints. If Kennedy punched him, he might break a bone, so he stepped back silently.
At that moment, the person lying on the hospital bed coughed twice, resolving the impasse.
Kennedy immediately turned her head and turned the wheel toward the hospital bed after hearing Charlotte’s cough, “Pour a glass of water.”
Nathan poured a glass of warm water as quickly as he could and handed it to her.
Charlotte had been asleep for a long time. When she opened her eyes, she still felt a little uncomfortable in the light of the room and closed her eyes again. When she opened them again, she saw a handsome, familiar face.
Charlotte’s eyes were dull. She was still in a state of unconsciousness.
Looking into her eyes, Kennedy wondered if she would act like yesterday.
The next second, Charlotte closed her eyes. The expression on her face was a little pained, and she coughed slightly again.
“Sit up.” Kennedy helped her up, and Nathan stepped forward to give her water, “Attendant Wilson, drink water first.”
Lying on the bed, Charlotte didn’t sit up or drink Nathan’s water.
“Maid Wilson?”
Charlotte didn’t move, but just lay there silently, looking directly into Kennedy’s eyes.
This look of hers made people startle.
Kennedy paid no attention to Charlotte’s eyes and reached out to help her sit up.
However, before she touched Charlotte, her hand was pushed away by Charlotte with great effort.
Nathan: “……”
Kennedy: “……”
Kennedy frowned slightly, narrowed his eyes and looked at her.
The way she was looking at him seemed to have hatred.
Was she wrong, or did she really hate him? Was she blaming him for locking her in the room?
“Go away!” After a few moments of staring at each other, Charlotte said. Her voice sounded dry and withering.
Kennedy’s brow furrowed further. Her voice grew colder, “Do you know who you’re talking to?”
Charlotte bit her lower lip and didn’t answer.
“Get up.”
He ordered her.
She didn’t move.
Kennedy reached out and Charlotte tried to swat her away, but to no avail. This time, he merely grabbed her wrist and helped her up with the other hand holding her back.
Charlotte was thin, so she was light, and she was also hungry, so she had little strength.
So, suddenly, she was lifted by Kennedy.
“Let go of me!” She struggled angrily. The place where the needle was stuck in her hand was twisted, and then the blood oozed out……
