Chapter 77:
In the darkness, the sound of keys clacking was especially loud in the silent night.
Then the door opened.
Two figures appeared in the dark space.
“Assistant Wilson?” Nathan looked around the darkened room and pulled out his phone to turn on the flashlight.
For a moment, the room lit up.
Then Kennedy saw a small figure cowering in the corner, hands clasping its knees and burying its head.
It was like a cat curled up.
The headband fell off and her hair spilled out, hanging messily over both shoulders, covering her face and ears.
Inexplicably, Kennedy was stricken with despair and coldness emanating from his body.
What was going on? Kennedy frowned and sounded unhappy.
“What’s wrong with him?”
Nathan heard the question and only then stepped forward, “Assistant Wilson?” She didn’t answer or move, but just sat there.
“Assistant Wilson? Assistant Wilson?” Nathan was startled to find that she was not moving at all, so he continued to call out to her.
However, the huddled person remained unresponsive, as if she were dead.
Nathan looked at Kennedy again, but saw a circle of sadness around her eyes. She exuded a somber, cold aura.
“Mr. Kennedy……”
Kennedy pulled the wheelchair closer to Charlotte and said coldly, “Raise your head.” There was no response.
Nathan’s heart was beating restlessly. What was going on with Asst. Wilson? Had those men beaten her?
“I have no patience. I’ll give you three seconds to lift your head.” added Kennedy.
But she didn’t seem to have heard his words. Kennedy’s eyes jumped, he suddenly thought of something, grabbed Charlotte’s wrist and directly dragged her up.
The little person was dragged by him without resistance, and a pale face appeared in Kennedy’s eyes.
Nathan, behind him, couldn’t help but suck in a breath of cold air.
Kennedy’s eyes were cold as he looked at Charlotte in front of him.
The usual clear cheeks were bloodless at this moment, even the pink of the lips had faded as well. Her clear eyes were as still as water, lifeless.
Kennedy asked quietly, “Tell me, what happened to you?” Charlotte sat motionless.
Kennedy found that her eyes were unfocused, as if she couldn’t see him.
Damn it.
What the hell was wrong with this woman?
Anger suddenly came over him and he said to the people behind him, “Find out what’s going on.”
Seeing Kennedy so angry and Charlotte’s soulless appearance, he realized the gravity of the situation and went to call someone.
Left in the room were Kennedy and Charlotte. He pursed his thin lips and said in a cold tone, “What’s the matter with you?”.
Charlotte kept her original movements and didn’t move.
Damn it.
Kennedy narrowed her eyes, staring at the pale-faced, unfocused-eyed woman in front of her.
For the first time, he discovered that he was helpless before a woman.
He could neither strike her nor scold her.
For her appearance surprisingly made Kennedy feel guilty. If it weren’t for him, she would be like this.
“Are you playing dumb with me, or can’t you really see me?” Kennedy asked again.
The fact was, Charlotte really wasn’t responding. Kennedy pulled her into his arms. Charlotte, like a puppet doll, was pulled into his arms and lay lightly in them.
Her cool hands slowly encircled Charlotte’s slender waist, adjusted her position and left her in a stable position in her arms. And then he slowly stroked the back of her neck with his other hand and said in a deep voice.
“Let me know if you are bullied and I will do justice for you.” The person in his arms did not respond.
“Woman, you’d better wake up. I forgave you the last time you cried drunk. Now you make such a scene, will the problem be solved?”
But despite his words, Charlotte still didn’t react.
Nathan soon brought in a man. As soon as he walked through the door, the man shuddered and asked, “Mr. Kennedy, what happened?”
At the words, a powerful aura burst from Kennedy’s body and he looked sideways at the man.
“What have you done to him?”
The man shuddered and his feet trembled, “Mr. Kennedy, we didn’t do anything.”
They knew this woman had an unusual relationship with Kennedy, how could they have done anything to her?
Kennedy looked at the man cold as a sword.
The man was instantly frightened, fell to the floor with weak knees and couldn’t speak properly.
“Mr. Kennedy …… we really didn’t do anything to her. Nathan told us not to touch her, so we took her to this room, waiting for your order.”
It didn’t sound like he was lying. But why was she like that?
Kennedy narrowed his eyes, “Did something happen in between?”
The man paused, remembered something and then said, “Nothing happened. She was very quiet after we locked her up.”
Kennedy’s look suddenly became suddenly complex.
A few moments later, the man suddenly exclaimed, “Because she was so quiet, we forgot about her and didn’t bring her any food at noon or night.”
As he uttered the words, the man seemed to have predicted her death, and his body trembled.
“What did you say?” before Kennedy could say a word, Nathan shouted, “Are you inhuman, you let her starve for a whole day?”
“I’m sorry, Mr. Kennedy, we didn’t mean to. She’s not talking, could it be that she’s starving?”
She hadn’t eaten for a day and she was pregnant, maybe she was really hungry.
Nathan felt guilty in his heart and could only say, “Mr. Kennedy, why don’t we go back first? It’s normal for Assistant Wilson to be hungry.”
Kennedy’s look was like electricity, but he let Nathan push him down.
At some point, Charlotte, who was lying in his arms, had already closed her eyes and was sleeping in his arms.
It was only when she got into bed that Kennedy checked to see that she had passed out.
Kennedy’s expression changed, “Go straight to the hospital, call Nanny Chan to make something easy to digest and send him to the hospital.”
