Chapter 43:.
“I was just out running errands.” When push came to shove, Charlotte told herself she couldn’t tell him. It was Lord Reynold’s order. If she told him, the relationship between Lord Reynold and Kennedy would get even worse.
Thinking about this, Charlotte pursed her lips and denied.
“Oh.” Kennedy narrowed his eyes and stared at her. “I’ll give you one last chance, say it!”
Her voice was cold and hard. Charlotte bit her lower lip. “I just went out to buy something,” she said. You’ve already docked me a month’s pay, I’ve got privacy. So you have no need to know what I’ve done.”
Kennedy narrowed his eyes, staring at her. “Say that again.”
“No!” she said as she reached back, grabbing her phone.
Kennedy frowned, “Where are you going?”
“Away from you!”
With that, Charlotte turned and ran out of the room.
She ran out of the room and set out to find the maid. When she looked back and saw that Kennedy didn’t catch up with her, she was relieved. She pulled out her phone and discovered that Diana had sent her a message.
Diana: I’m on my way, wait for my good news.
It sounded like Diana was sure she would get it, so Charlotte thought she needn’t worry.
She stood outside for a long time, waiting for Diana’s call.
Then Diana called her, “Done, don’t worry.”
Charlotte got excited and asked quietly, “Got it?”.
“Yes. Do you want me to take a picture of him?”.
“No, but… How did you do that, are you going to get caught?”
“Don’t worry. Take a rest. You know what to do when people ask you a question, don’t you? That’s it. I have to go.”
Diana hung up the phone. Charlotte stayed on the spot. Diana had always been good at that, she thought, it would come to an end.
The maid who had cleaned the room came up panting.
“Ma’am.”
Seeing her, Charlotte put the phone away and looked up calmly.
“What happened?”
The maid’s face was very upset and she bit her lower lip. “Ma’am, I’m… I’m sorry. Lydia told me she accidentally lost her button.”
Charlotte frowned. “What do you mean, she lost it?”
“She accidentally bumped into someone on her way back from shopping. Everything fell to the floor, but he retrieved everything but the button.” crash….
With a sharp jump of her eyelids, Charlotte stepped forward. “Did you hurt yourself?”
The maid was so frightened she stammered, “No, no, she just dropped things.” Charlotte was relieved to hear this.
Diana scared her to death, how dare she bump into her, she was crazy!
“Ma’am, Lydia hasn’t hurt herself, but she’s lost her button – what should we do?” The maid had not forgotten that a maid was fired because she spilled milk on the mistress. When she left, she said a lot of bad things about Charlotte.
So now, in the maid’s eyes, Charlotte had a deterrent force.
“Never mind.” Charlotte frowned, thought for a good while and calmed down again, “It’s just a button.”
“But… Isn’t that button very important to you?”
“It is, but your safety is also important. I can’t punish you for a button. Forget it, but you can’t mention it again. Or else I’ll think about it.”
The maid nodded, “Don’t worry. I certainly won’t mention it again. I’ll tell Lydia. Thank you for forgiving us, ma’am.”
“Then I’ll go first.”
The second day
Early in the morning, Charlotte was invited to go to Mr. Reynold’s study.
“How are you coming with what I asked you yesterday?”
Charlotte replied. “The other party refused to talk when he found out I was from the Moore Group.”
Mr. Reynold frowned, “What, so Gerald Carter refuses to cooperate with the Moore Group?”
Charlotte did not respond. Mr. Reynold thought for a moment, “It must be because the Moore Group doesn’t want to cooperate with him, so he’s upset. Christina, send him a gift and tell him Kennedy can’t draw attention to himself.” Charlotte bit her lower lip and said nothing.
“Do you hear me?”
Mr. Reynold’s voice suddenly became shrill, causing Charlotte to jump and nod her head.
“Yes, Mr. Reynold.”
Because of past experience, Charlotte didn’t dare go out today without asking permission, for fear that she would be docked another month’s pay again, and then she would indeed become destitute.
So Charlotte went to the office to seek Kennedy’s approval.
But Kennedy turned her down without even lifting his eyelids.
“No.”
Hearing this, Charlotte was perplexed. “No? Why?”
Kennedy ignored her, his eyes on the document.
Charlotte bit her lower lip and took two steps forward. “Mr. Kennedy, I really need to go out for a while for something very important.”
“I said no.”
“Why?”
“Get out!”
“Kennedy Moore!”
Bang!
Kennedy huffed, dropped the file in his hand and slapped his hand on the desk, making a noise.
It stood out in a silent office.
Then Charlotte stopped talking. They stared at each other.
Finally, Charlotte had to give in and left the office.
After leaving the office, Charlotte was very angry. It was hard to be a human being between them.
What now? Charlotte was distraught because Mr. Reynold asked her to send him a gift? But she had no savings. Gerald was the chairman of the Carter Group, so the gift had to be expensive.
If she didn’t do it, she wouldn’t be able to explain it to Mr. Reynold.
It bothered Charlotte to think about it.
She got up and headed back to the office.
The moment she knocked on the door, Kennedy’s angry roar was heard. “Fuck you!”
Another failure!
Forget it, it didn’t work. She could try to meet him at the Carter Group when he wasn’t working.
Her mind made up, Charlotte never bothered Kennedy again.
When it was time to leave work, Charlotte gathered her things and hurried out of the company. She then took a bus to the Carter Group.
“Mr. Kennedy, Asst. Wilson left after work.”
