Chapter 42:
Charlotte ran out of the room with her shoes off and ran into the maid. “Hello.”
In front of the maid, Charlotte had always cringed, because she knew the maids looked down on her, and she didn’t know if she could get the button back.
She had been willing to be scolded by the maid, Charlotte, had not expected the maid, after seeing her, to change her face, take a step back, and then call her respectfully, “Ma’am.”
Charlotte was stunned for a moment, what was going on?
“Ma’am, what can I do for you?”
Charlotte paused and then nodded. Although she didn’t know what was going on, right now it wasn’t the most important thing, but having the button back.
Thinking about this, Charlotte asked, “You just cleaned the room, did you find a button?”
Hearing this, the maid replied, “Are you looking for the gold button? I thought it was Mr. Kennedy’s.”
“No!” Charlotte replied, “It’s mine, where’s the button?”
“Er…” The maid changed her face slightly and said, “I’m sorry, ma’am, I thought it was Mr. Kennedy’s, so…. I let Lydia ask for me.”
Her heart almost jumped out of her throat. Her face turned blue. “Mr. Kennedy hasn’t come back, where are you going to find him?”
“Well, because I’m getting off work soon and Lydia will be on call for the night, so I gave the button to her and she’ll ask him when she gets back. Ma’am, since the button is yours, I’ll give it back to you.”
Charlotte was angry. She was worried that the maid Lydia would go to Kennedy with the button, so she decided to go see her personally.
“No need, tell me where Lydia is, I will personally go to her.”
The maid, seeing his face was grave, said cautiously, “I’ll take you to her, ma’am.”
“All right.”
Under the guidance of the maid, Charlotte learned that Lydia had gone out unexpectedly.
Upon hearing that Lydia had gone out, Charlotte’s face grew uglier than ever. The maid became so frightened that she began to tremble and say, “Ma’am, I’m so sorry! I don’t know if that button is yours. If I knew it was yours, I would certainly give it back to you instead of giving it to Lydia!”
“You passed me by. I’m his wife, but you didn’t give the button to me, you gave it to…” Charlotte was angry, because the maid had walked past her and she knew she lived there.
Couldn’t she just give her the button?
Charlotte couldn’t help but get angry.
“Ma’am, that’s a man’s button, and? it was found under Mr. Kennedy’s bed, and I unconsciously thought it was Mr. Kennedy’s.”
Charlotte’s eyelids fluttered. Yes, she had almost forgotten that it was a man’s button, and her nervousness would make people suspicious. Thinking of this, Charlotte suppressed the excitement in her heart and whispered, “It’s the button from the suit I bought for my father. It’s very important to me, could you help me contact Lydia to get it back?”
The maid nodded, “Yes, ma’am, I’ll get right on it.”
Then she went to make a phone call, leaving Charlotte standing where she was.
She was still worried, but didn’t dare show it.
Two minutes later, the maid answered, “Lydia has gone out to do some shopping. Ma’am, you can go back to the room first. She’ll be back in an hour. She’ll bring it back to you later.
An hour? No! Kennedy would be back in an hour. If Lydia returned it, Kennedy would find out. Charlotte thought a moment and asked quietly, “Does she have the button with her?”
“Yes.”
That was terrible.
“Ma’am, I understand your state of mind. I will personally wait here and take the button when she is back. And I’ll send it back to you, okay?”
There was nothing to be done. Charlotte bit her lower lip and nodded. “I’ll come see you in an hour.”
When she got back to the room, Charlotte texted Diana. Diana called immediately. After hearing what happened, Diana couldn’t help but scold her, “You’re really stupid. The two maids are Moore Family people. You have acted so abnormally that they are sure to be suspicious.”
Charlotte bit her lower lip. “I got nervous at first and couldn’t calm down!”
“Why don’t you calm down? You’re the mistress of the Moore Family. If you scold them, they won’t dare do anything, but you acted weird, so they’ll have second thoughts.”
Diana sighed, “I have to get the button before the maid comes back, tell me all the details you know.”
Charlotte, “Is that possible? I don’t know much.”
“Don’t look down on my family. My brother is capable. Wait for my news.”
After hanging up the phone, Charlotte sat on the bed with the cell phone in her hand.
After a while, Kennedy returned and Nathan pushed it away. Charlotte probably had a guilty conscience. When she saw Kennedy, she stood up and looked at him awkwardly.
Charlotte was a transparent person. Everything showed on her face and she couldn’t hide anything.
Kennedy knew this after these days of getting along with her. She looked at him nervously and held the phone tightly. Kennedy knew she must have done something that made her feel guilty.
Kennedy’s eyes twitched slightly. “You go back first.”
Nathan paused for a moment and then looked back at Charlotte. “I’m going. Call me if you need help.”
Charlotte was scared to death to be under the same roof as Kennedy. Faced with Kennedy’s piercing eyes, she always didn’t know where to put her hands.
The phone vibrated. There was a message, but Charlotte stood still.
Kennedy slid the wheelchair away and slowly approached her.
Charlotte clutched the phone tightly and looked at it unconsciously.
As Kennedy approached, Charlotte took two steps back and sank onto the bed.
“Guilt? What have you done?”
“No, no.” Charlotte shook her head. “You must be tired from work. I’ll get you some water.”
Then Charlotte got up and was about to walk past him, but was stopped by Kennedy.
“What on earth did you do when you left the company this morning? It’s not too late to tell me now.”
Hearing this, Charlotte’s footsteps stopped in place and she lowered her gaze to look at Kennedy.
So she doubted nothing but this?
If she was using this as a shield .
