Chapter 333:
Charlotte looked down and stared at her toes, stunned.
“Charlotte, our family has been kind to you, even though you are not my daughter, I have offered you so much since you were a child. Now the Nelson Family found you and you will become Mrs. Wilson’s daughter. You don’t want to disown us now, do you? Of course, it doesn’t matter if you want to disown us. You know, you have to cover the great expense of your upbringing.”
Charlotte gave her a startled look.
When she was still hesitating, she hadn’t expected Mrs. Wilson to tell her the truth so quickly.
Her eyes twitched, “So…. I’m really not your biological daughter?”.
Mrs. Wilson wondered at his reactions, why was she upset? Mr. Wilson pulled away, looking at Charlotte with mixed emotions, and sighed, “Charlotte, you are definitely…not our daughter, …you were a child we adopted from the orphanage.” Said Mr. Wilson gently, as always.
Charlotte glanced at him and noticed that her father looked much older than before. She could see that he cared for her in his dull eyes, but his words hurt her.
He looked down again and said with a wry smile, “I didn’t expect all this to be true. I’ve considered myself to be your biological daughter until now. I didn’t believe what Megan said before, but I didn’t expect that….. all of this… would… be true.”
“Are you all right?” Mrs. Wilson couldn’t help but look at her in surprise at Charlotte’s words, “Being a member of the Nelson Family is the best thing for you, isn’t it? I’ve learned that, although not as prominent as the Moore Family, they are still a leading family in B-Town. What’s wrong with being a daughter of this family? Charlotte, be realistic. As of now, you are a member of the Nelson Family, the daughter of Mrs. Nelson. We are honored and privileged to be your adoptive parents. Don’t forget Christina, she is your sister.”
As she spoke of this, Mrs. Wilson reached over and placed her hands on Charlotte’s shoulders, “Did you hear me? Your sister loves you very much and has always known that you care about her very much. If there is anything you can do for her…you know, you must be there if she needs you. Or, do you think the Nelson Family wants another daughter, how about taking her to the Nelson Family?”
“…” Charlotte was speechless.
“I’m asking you one last time, am I not your daughter? You lied to me for wealth and honor, didn’t you? We’ve lived together for so many years, I don’t think…”
“What nonsense are you talking, what do you mean I lied to you for wealth and honor, how can you fake blood? Besides… you are of the Nelson Family in fact. Even if you are not their daughter, you are not our daughter. Your father is right, you are a child we adopted from the orphanage.”
“Why?” Charlotte gave a wry smile “Why…they wanted to adopt me?”.
Mrs. Wilson turned her face away, “Don’t ask me, anyway…that’s all.”
Mr. Wilson sighed and told her the truth.
“At first, we were married for many years, but she didn’t get pregnant. Then a fortune teller advised us to adopt a girl from an orphanage. Unexpectedly, we met you when we got there. You were adorable, so we really liked you and took you home.”
That said, Charlotte could probably guess what happened next.
“But you didn’t expect that, soon after adopting me, you would have a daughter of your own, did you?”.
He nodded, “Yes, that was something we didn’t expect.”
“Then, after you had your own biological daughter, you started neglecting me, right?”.
Thinking about this, Charlotte couldn’t help but laugh, “Actually, I’ve considered that you treat Christina much better than me because she was my younger sister. Besides, I’ve always convinced myself that I was her older sister, so it was reasonable to be nice to her. I just never thought she wasn’t your biological daughter.”
She still couldn’t accept it.
“Charlotte, what are you doing here today? You are now a member of the Nelson Family. Why are you talking about your past? Did you come here to get revenge?” said Mrs. Wilson angrily.
Mr. Wilson was quick to stop her: “Don’t talk nonsense. As you can see, she’s depressed now, does it look like she’s coming here to take revenge? She probably can’t stand it…”
“What can’t she stand? My dear Christina ran away after knowing this, why can’t she bear it? She is going to be a princess. My poor Christina has to live in poverty with us anyway. Ooh… our family is suffering terribly.”
As she spoke of this, she began to howl and cry.
Mr. Wilson was annoyed by her crying, “Don’t make trouble! Do you know what you look like? Although Charlotte is not our biological daughter, she is our adopted daughter, don’t you know her? She’s not like that at all.”
Hearing this, Mrs. Wilson quickly stopped crying, as if she had thought of something. Then she rushed to Charlotte and put her hands on Charlotte’s shoulders again. She gave her a fierce look with wide eyes.
“That’s right Charlotte, you’re not bad…so…. Why don’t you give your position to Christina? Let’s go tell the Nelson Family that they were wrong. Christina is the girl they’ve been looking for, not you! I swear that as long as Christina joins the Nelson Family and becomes Mrs. Nelson’s daughter, I will treat you very well in the future.”
She was crazy, talking nonsense.
At first, Charlotte had only come to verify her identity, but she hadn’t expected to hear the words that tore her heart out. She stared at Mrs. Wilson blankly, her pinkish-white lips quivering.
“In your opinion. Do you think I should give him anything he wants?”
Mrs. Wilson was surprised, then shook her head, “I don’t, but…you’re his big sister, shouldn’t you let him have the good things? Charlotte, I beg you to give your identity to Christina, and she will return your generosity. Then you will still have a good future.”
Charlotte couldn’t help but laugh, her laughter was so bitter she couldn’t stop.
Mrs. Wilson looked at her quizzically.
When Charlotte’s laughter ceased, she became distant and indifferent, and even her voice became cold, “What if I refuse?”
“What?”
“If I refuse to give you my identity, and accept the fact that I am from the Nelson Family, how will you treat me?”
“…Don’t you dislike glory and wealth? Then what’s the problem with giving it to your sister?
Charlotte, I should take credit for raising you for over 20 years!”
“So, do you always get your way to decide about my life and take everything away from me? If that’s the case, then…”
