Chapter 243:
Charlotte came to her senses and clutched at the piece of furniture next to her, trying to calm herself.
“I’m fine.”
“But you don’t look so good. Shall I make a call for you?”
Charlotte didn’t answer. She took a deep breath and calmed her mood. After a while, she looked up and smiled at the salespeople with an exaggerated smile.
After that, Charlotte walked out of the jewelry store to the worried looks of the salespeople.
All the way, Charlotte walked aimlessly. She didn’t know what was in front of her.
Before coming to this jewelry store, she had been trying to console herself, to convince herself that this pair of earrings was of the same style, otherwise it would not be so casual hanging from Diana’s ear.
She didn’t even dare to ask for tests, but she still went. After getting the results, he realized he couldn’t accept it.
She said she had a meeting, so she asked Nathan to send her home. But she left the meeting room and didn’t come home for a night. And today Diana wore the pair of earrings that appeared in front of her.
What did that mean?
Charlotte stopped walking…
That meant they were together yesterday, all day and all night.
‘Charlotte, you were waiting for him for a whole night, are you a fool?’
‘You were worried about Kennedy and you even called Nathan.’
Nathan wanted to tell you, didn’t he? No wonder he looked at her with such pity in his eyes.
Only she was kept in the dark.
“Liar.” Charlotte scolded under her breath and stumbled forward.
Bang!
She accidentally bumped into someone’s arms.
“You walk without seeing, you want to get yourself killed? Get out of here.”
Someone backed away from her, cursing. Charlotte didn’t see who it was, nor did she apologize.
She kept staggering, collided with another after a few steps, but this time she was unlucky and she was knocked to the ground and sat on the cold, hard floor.
“What’s the matter with you, why did you trip over me, what are you doing sitting there? You’re not trying to rip me off, are you?”. The man quickly left, fearing she might blackmail him.
She sat on the floor for some time and tried to get up, but found she had no strength in her body.
Charlotte was very angry, but it was a trivial matter – was it worth leaving her so out of it?
‘Charlotte, you were able to get up when your parents were cruelly pushing you around, when you divorced Aldrich, and you can still get up now…’
She pushed the floor hard to get up, but a pair of warm hands suddenly grabbed her by the arms and helped her to her feet.
In a blur, Charlotte saw a tall, slender figure standing in front of her.
She reached out and wiped the corners of her eyes, and then her tears welled up. Her hazy eyes gradually became clearer. Charlotte clearly saw the person wiping away her tears.
Manfred looked at her with pity, wiped the tears from her eyes gently and sighed helplessly.
“Silly girl, I can’t watch you cry like this.” Charlotte’s tears burst forth immediately.
Her tears kept falling. At first, Manfred was able to wipe it away quietly, but there were more and more tears. He felt distressed for her and suddenly reached out to pull her into his arms.
“Leave it.” He squeezed the back of her neck and pressed her cheek against his chest.
His shirt was warm and damp with tears.
“If it were me, I wouldn’t let you cry alone with so much sadness. Charlotte, give me a chance, for once.”
Charlotte was drawn into his arms. His strange breath made her resist, but she wanted that warm feeling. She felt that she was really tired, and that she had no strength. She couldn’t resist such a warm embrace.
People were coming and going in the street. Manfred hugged Charlotte, not caring about the strange looks from others.
After a while, the person being hugged became unresponsive. Manfred pulled her away, only to find her closing her eyes, as if fainting.
Her face changed. He lifted her cross and quickly left the place.
A clap of thunder sounded. The sky, with countless dark clouds, began to rain heavily, accompanied by lightning, almost cutting off half the sky.
Several claps of thunder sounded continuously. Charlotte woke up from bed. She looked around and found herself lying in the warm living room, which was no longer a busy street.
“Are you up?” a warm, wet voice was heard. Charlotte looked along the sound and found Manfred sitting in front of his hospital bed. He looked at her softly, “Are you feeling something wrong?”
Then he reached over and touched her forehead, as if he wanted to check her temperature.
After a while, he didn’t seem to be able to do that, so he leaned over and lifted his head and felt it with his forehead against hers.
Without warning, a warm breath hit her face. Charlotte saw Manfred’s handsome outline up close, her pupils constricted.
When she tried to push him away, Manfred pulled away. Then she lifted her lip.
“The fever is gone, or I would have worried about you.”
Hearing that, Charlotte said, “I have a fever?”
As soon as she spoke, she realized how hoarse her voice was.
Manfred smiled. He said nothing and got up to pour her a glass of water, then helped her sit up, “Drink a glass of water to moisten your voice, drink and then talk.” Her voice was dry and hoarse. Naturally, Charlotte did not refuse. She got up, took the glass and drank it.
“Don’t worry, drink slowly or you’ll choke.”
When she finished drinking the water, Manfred took the glass. And with his other hand he brought it to his lips to wipe away the water stains.
That intimate gesture made Charlotte frown and unconsciously she tried to avoid his touch.
But Manfred was so quick that she didn’t have time to avoid or push him away.
“You have a fever, and a very bad one; the doctor said you have a cold. Charlotte, you are very weak. You may have to stay in the hospital for a few days.”
Hearing that she was going to be hospitalized, Charlotte’s face changed, “I don’t want to be hospitalized.” She didn’t like the hospital. She didn’t want to stay here.
Hearing that, Manfred looked at her seriously, “You should be hospitalized, your physical quality is very poor, and…. I heard from the doctor that you are pregnant.” Hearing this, Charlotte was stunned and looked at him with wide eyes.
For an instant, mixed feelings assailed her from the bottom of her heart, almost choking her.
