Chapter 21:
Charlotte clutched the contract in her hand so tightly that her fingertips paled. She opened the pen, signed her name at the bottom of it and put it back in the bag. Then he prepared to leave.
Kennedy raised his eyebrows in satisfaction, “Women who can be bought with money are so easy to deal with.”
The next second, Charlotte ripped up the contract on the desk, which generated some negative feelings in Kennedy, so he frowned.
“You don’t have to pay me. I’m staying here for a reason. I thank you for not forcing me to have an abortion, but that doesn’t mean you can humiliate me with money.”
Kennedy scoffed, her eyes full of sarcasm, “Don’t women like you see money like the whole world?”
“You!” Charlotte clenched her fist. She wanted to argue with him. A moment later, however, she loosened her fingers and smiled, “Well, if you see me as that kind of person, then I am. We just take what we need from each other. I’ve already signed the papers. Don’t worry, when the time is up, I’ll be gone.” He had to come up with a plan during this time.
“Well, I’m looking forward to that day.”
Charlotte turned her little body and left. She didn’t even touch the check on the table.
Kennedy narrowed her eyes.
It was a rather large check, and she didn’t glance at it? Was she pretending not to be interested in the money…or was that her real reaction?
If she didn’t care about the money, what was her purpose in marrying into the Moore Family?
Since Charlotte signed the paper, her relationship with Kennedy was undone by the contract. They fought less, but she still went to the company and worked as Kennedy’s assistant because that was Mr. Reynold’s orders.
Charlotte was no fool and was good at her job. As soon as she was offered the opportunity to study, she would take it.
Nathan already had a different opinion of her in less than a week.
“Mr. Kennedy, she’s pretty good.”
Kennedy only replied with a cold chuckle, “Is that so?”
Nathan nodded, “She did well as you asked. She did everything in order, of course she was good.
“She’s married to a Moore, how can she be an idiot?”
Nathan was surprised at her words. He put his head down to check the schedule without answering her, “There’s a party tonight, do you want to go with Miss Moore?”
“With her?” Kennedy tapped her finger on the table, but her eyes were still focused on the notebook, “To embarrass me?”
Nathan didn’t dare say another word.
They talked for a while, when Nathan was about to leave the office,
Kennedy suddenly asked, “Send Charlotte in.”
“Okay.” Nathan stepped out and moved his mouth.
Lately Kennedy had been saying one thing and doing another quite often. He had just said Charlotte embarrassed him and now he wanted her in his office. Did he intend to bring her to the party?
Charlotte was working next door. When Nathan called her, she was dealing with some paperwork.
“I’ll be there in two minutes.”
“Are you looking to get yourself killed?” Nathan said behind her earnestly, “Mr. Moore wants you there, and he wants you there right now.”
Charlotte had no choice but to put the folder down. She took a deep breath and said, “Understood.”
Then she headed for the office.
As soon as she entered, Nathan began to listen in on their conversation.
“Mr. Moore, you want to see me?” Kennedy asked him not to reveal their relationship at the company. She was his assistant, nothing more. If she saw him, she had to call him “Mr. Moore” like everyone else.
Charlotte wasn’t very comfortable with it, but then, she had called him that too many times, she didn’t feel anything anymore.
Kennedy threw her a golden invitation, but didn’t speak at all.
Charlotte hesitated a bit before stepping forward to pick it up. After glancing at it, she asked, “Mr. Moore, would you like to go to the party?” Charlotte was thinking, meanwhile her bright eyes shone, “I remember Mr. Carter of the Carter Group is also on the guest list, the possibility of him coming to the party is also slim. Mr. Moore may take this opportunity to show him his intention to cooperate.” Kennedy gave him a flattering look, but that disappeared very quickly.
Well, this woman has a quick mind and a good memory.
“Agreed.”
“Then I’ll make some arrangements for you, Mr. Moore.”
“Come with me.”
Charlotte just turned her body when she heard Kennedy’s voice. She suddenly stopped her steps and gave him a confused look, “Are you referring to me, Mr. Moore?”
“I don’t feel like talking business at parties, that will be your job.”
Charlotte understood his words and nodded, “All right, I’ll talk to Mr. Carter. I’ll leave now if you don’t need me here.”
“I do have business.” Kennedy looked at her from head to toe without any emotion, which made Charlotte feel really uncomfortable. She straightened instinctively.
“Change your clothes.” He frowned.
Charlotte looked down at her clothes; they were cheap things she’d brought before she’d arrived at the Moore Family.
She had worn them because they were comfortable and Kennedy said nothing against her attire.
She bit her lower lips, “I know, I’ll buy a new suit after work.”
“Nathan!”
This shout sent chills down Nathan’s spine as he stood in front of the door.
What the fuck, he’d been caught eavesdropping again.
He’d been caught twice, and he swore he wouldn’t do it again.
Nathan didn’t dare waste his time, so he walked into the office.
“Mr. Moore.”
Kennedy gave him a cold look. Nathan tried to read his mind, a moment later, he made an attempt by asking, “Mr. Moore, shall I show Miss Wilson the evening gown for tonight’s party?”
Kennedy hummed as if in agreement.
Nathan was so relieved that he guessed right, “I’ll get ready for it.” Half an hour later.
The three of them showed up at the mall.
Charlotte followed Kennedy and Nathan into a high-end store. The decor was luxurious and they were also playing soothing music.
Although Kennedy was sitting in a wheelchair, the staff still noticed his ample attire, so they put on warm smiles, preparing to serve the customers.
“Sir, welcome.”
Kennedy, with his nonchalant attitude, didn’t even glance at the staff. Instead, Nathan, standing behind him, said, “Find her some clothes for an important party.” Charlotte hid behind Nathan. She was a little scared.
It was the first time she had come to a place like this, and she could hardly keep her head up in the bright light. In fact, she used to come to this kind of store quite often with friends, but that was before she married Aldrich.
The staff was smiling, however, once she saw Charlotte, her smile faded.
“For this lady?”
“Yes.” Nathan nodded earnestly, “Pick her something nice.”
“Yes, please follow me.”
The staff took her away.
After a while, Charlotte came out in a black and white dress. Kennedy was the one who drove Charlotte here, of course Charlotte cared about her thoughts.
Kennedy’s eyes radiated coldness, “No.”
The expression on Charlotte’s face changed a little, then she went to put on another one.
This time it was a black dress. But Kennedy continued to frown.
Charlotte clenched her fist and turned away.
The next few dresses only made Kennedy frown even more. She seemed to have a way of making people feel scared.
When the staff brought her out again, Kennedy smashed a magazine on the table.
Charlotte was startled. She bit her lips as an instinctive move.
“I think… maybe we should stop now, I…”
Although Kennedy wasn’t looking at her, Charlotte couldn’t lift her head. She knew she wasn’t cut out for dresses, because she had no charm.
These fancy dresses seemed like jokes to her.
Unexpectedly, Kennedy opened her mouth, “Don’t give her clothes for old people. She’s thirty, not fifty.”
Finishing her words, Kennedy directed an aggressive look at the staff.
She suddenly felt stressed, which made her face pale a little. She nodded, “Understood.”
