Chapter 138:
Charlotte pulled her hand away, blushing, and glared at Kennedy with hatred.
“Don’t I need you to stop the bleeding? Damn it.”
Kennedy snorted, “What, you want someone else to stop the bleeding?”
Charlotte didn’t bother arguing with him, it would get worse if they kept talking, so she went to squat down to pick up the remains again, Kennedy, however, scolded her, “What’s wrong with your brain, why are you using your hands to pick them up?”
“……” Charlotte suddenly raised her head, “Are you agreeing with me to use the broom?”
As she squatted down to pick up the debris with her hands, she thought that Kennedy had tormented her on purpose and should have wanted her to pick them up with her hands, so even if she went for the broom, it wouldn’t do any good.
She couldn’t believe he’d let her use a broom.
Kennedy narrowed his eyes and said angrily, “What did you say?”
“Nothing.” Charlotte stood up abruptly and turned around to grab the broom. If he had agreed, she certainly wouldn’t have been stupid enough to use her hands.
When she returned, Kennedy was about to leave.
When he left, the icy breath disappeared. The temperature returned to normal. Charlotte quickly cleaned up the debris on the floor. The cleaner was mopping the floor at the time. Seeing that, she said, “Oh, why did you break so many cups? You are young and energetic, but you are not as capable as older people like us.” Charlotte awkwardly put down the broom and left.
When it was time to go downstairs, Yanis approached her and asked.
“I heard that at the meeting this morning, Mr. Kennedy gave you a hard time.
Gee, that’s tough luck. It’s only been a while, and now you’re out of line.”
Charlotte, “……”
Yanis, “Men are all like that. They don’t appreciate you when they’ve had you, and then they want to please another woman, Is that necessary? Mr. Kennedy is incapable, I don’t think he should be demanding. It’s good to have you.”
Hearing this, Charlotte felt helpless. “Are you hurting me or comforting me?”
“Both!” Yanis smiled and hugged her by the arm. “I’m hurting you and I’m comforting you, but you should try harder to make me love only you.”
Charlotte, “…You think too much!”
Yanis was about to say something, but suddenly a figure appeared, so she and Charlotte had to stop their steps.
Yanis looked at the person unexpectedly.
“Mr. Manfred!”
Manfred smiled at Yanis. The smile suddenly warmed Yanis’ heart. She looked down shyly.
Manfred looked at Charlotte, “Do you have time?” Charlotte froze for a moment.
“What is it?” she asked.
Manfred looked at her smiling without saying anything. Charlotte was not a stupid person, so she was able to look at Yanis and said in a soft voice, “You go back first, I’ll tell you tomorrow.”
“Okay.” Yanis nodded, and then towards Charlotte he winked at her for a while before leaving.
As Yanis left, Manfred pulled out his car keys, “Go, I’ll buy you dinner.”
What? Before Charlotte had said a word, Manfred had turned around. He stayed in situ for quite a while before moving on. Many people in the company looked at them. Charlotte dug her fingers into the tangles and said, “Manfred, I’m not hungry.”
Hearing that, Manfred sketched a smile, “Don’t worry, it’s not a place to fill you up.”
Charlotte, “…but……”
“Just a meal, can’t I treat you?”
When he said that, Charlotte suddenly felt she had gone too far. He had done nothing but invite her to dinner, but she had repeatedly turned him down.
In the subway parking garage, Manfred chivalrously opened the door for her. When she bent down to get into the car, he reached out a hand to block the overhead door, to prevent her from hitting her head.
After Charlotte sat down, Manfred bent down to strap her in.
He got very close. The kind of clear, masculine breath of his body reached her breath, so Charlotte became nervous and unconsciously controlled her breathing, until he buckled his seat belt! She thought she should have buckled it herself.
But Manfred had sidestepped the car, opened the door and sat in the driver’s seat.
Charlotte thought he was quite the gentleman.
“You said you don’t like sweet, you like spicy, so I’ll take you out for spicy fish.” Spicy fish?
At the word, Charlotte’s eyes suddenly lit up and she swallowed saliva unconsciously. However, she embarrassedly said, “Manfred, how do you know I like to eat that?”
“I asked my assistant to check your preferences and found out.” said Manfred, and wanted to reach over to rub her head.
But the distance between the two people wasn’t that close, besides when he moved his hand closer. Charlotte unconsciously avoided a little, so Manfred couldn’t touch her head.
His hand paused in the air and then he withdrew it.
“Are you afraid I have bad manners?”
“No, no.” Charlotte shook her head. “I’m just worried that Kennedy will cause you trouble. I don’t want to cause you trouble, so…”
“All right.” Manfred flashed a smile, “I told you, Kennedy is cold but warm hearted. Besides, you were wronged in the secretary’s office today. I don’t think you’ve smiled much since you married into the Moore Family. You’re not happy.” Happy?
It seemed Charlotte hadn’t known what the emotion was for a long time.
Since marrying Aldrich, she hadn’t known what happiness was, let alone after the divorce with Kennedy. Most of the time, she suffered like hell.
How terrible.
Thinking about this, Charlotte closed her eyes and said in a calm voice, “Never mind, I’m used to it.”
Hearing that, Manfred showed a slight smile and said in a somber voice: “You’re used to being unhappy? It’s not a good habit. Charlotte… A girl should smile a lot, especially when you’re so young. It’s not good for you to be miserable all the time, and it will have an effect on your health.” Charlotte sketched a wry smile.
“I don’t mean this kind of smile. I mean that kind of smile that comes from your heart.”
Charlotte couldn’t laugh. She said helplessly, “Manfred, don’t give me a hard time.”
“Okay.” Manfred stopped. The car moved forward and soon reached its destination. When Manfred drove her, Charlotte had followed, trying to keep her distance from him.
Then, from time to time, she glanced to the side, always with a guilty look, until he entered the room.
Suddenly, Charlotte bumped into Manfred’s back.
