I pushed him playfully and turned over to lie on my side, with my back to him.
Herbert wrapped his arm around my waist and asked, “You don’t believe in my abilities?”
“I believe it, I believe it. It’s just that I don’t have the same stamina. I need to rest and recuperate,” I said quickly.
Of course, I knew about Herbert’s abilities, but it was true that I couldn’t keep up.

I sighed in relief.
After that, we hugged each other and fell asleep. We slept soundly through the night.
The next afternoon, I went to visit my mother.
She suggested we meet outside, away from the house.
Mom was now living at Betty’s place. She knew that the conflict between Betty and me hadn’t been resolved, so she helped me avoid running into Betty.
I strolled around with my mom and we had some food together. I also picked out a few gifts for her.
On our way back in the taxi, we remained silent until we reached the entrance of Betty’s community.
After we paid, the taxi drove away. I looked up at the tall building in the community, about to speak when my mother spoke first.
“Bella, you can just drop me off here. I know you don’t want to go to your sister’s house.”
Hearing this, I felt a pang of sadness.
“It’s really because of this reason that you chose to meet me outside.”
I reached out and handed my mother the shopping bags I had in my hand.
My mother frowned, saying, “I know Betty did a lot of wrong things in the past, but she’s still your sister. And now you’re living better than she is. I hope you don’t hold that against her.”
“Mom, I’ve never been jealous of Betty. I want her to live a good life in the future too,” I replied.
Mom nodded and said, “I know you’re a kind child. Your upcoming wedding is an opportunity for you both. Betty has promised to attend. Can you call her and invite her?”
I lowered my head, thought for a moment, and then said, “I bought a new bag and a scarf. I’ll send them to her tomorrow. You can give them to her.”
I wasn’t looking forward to improving my relationship with Betty. I just had to consider my mother’s feelings. To avoid any awkwardness, it would be better for my mom to hand over the branded bag and scarf I had bought.
So many unpleasant things had happened in the past, and this was the only thing I could do now.
