Chapter 896:
I couldn’t help but laugh. I thought he had forgotten about it, but he still remembered. I felt a little nervous. After all, it was a sensitive topic. Herbert stared at me, his expression serious.
“I want to know what happened between you and Klein today. Tell me.”
Bella’s POV:
I knew I had to clear up the doubts in Herbert’s mind as soon as possible. Otherwise, he would likely keep thinking about this constantly.
I placed my hands on Herbert’s shoulders and said with a serious expression, “I went to the bathroom, and when I came out, I bumped into Klein. After all, he’s an old friend, so I greeted him.”
“Since it was just a greeting, why did he put his hand on your shoulder?” Herbert’s voice was laced with dissatisfaction.
I continued, “After we greeted each other, we talked for a while. He wished us good luck, and of course, I also wished him and Ella the best. But when we got to talking about Ella, he seemed agitated. He said that he and Ella weren’t compatible and were just getting by with each other. I told him that he should take the relationship seriously. If they were a good match, they should continue; if not, they should end it sooner rather than later. That’s when he got even more agitated, and I don’t know why he put his hand on my shoulder.”
As I finished speaking, my heart was racing. I wasn’t sure if Herbert would believe me, so I took a quick, secret glance at him.

It didn’t take long for me to realize that his eyes were locked on me, sharp and intense, like a hawk watching its prey. I quickly lowered my gaze in response, nervous.
As expected, Herbert asked, “If there’s nothing wrong, why are you so nervous now? Why can’t you look me in the eye?”
I took a deep breath and forced myself to meet his gaze.
“Who… who said I wouldn’t look you in the eye? I’m just a little nervous because I’m afraid you won’t believe me. I care about you so much, and I’m afraid you’ll misunderstand!”
I pouted, lowering my head again, my hands resting lightly on his chest. Herbert reached out, gently holding my chin, and lifted my face to meet his eyes.
“Who said I don’t trust you?” he said, his voice serious.
“Just explain it to me honestly. If I didn’t trust you, I wouldn’t have spoken up for you at the banquet.”
Hearing this, I felt a rush of relief and smiled, “Really?”
Herbert’s eyes softened with satisfaction as he added, “Except for me, you don’t like any other man. I still have a little confidence in that.”
I couldn’t help but push him playfully.
“How can you be so proud of yourself?”
Herbert reached out and pulled me into his arms. With an overbearing tone, he said, “Because no one is more suited for you than I am.”
“How do you know that?” I asked, looking up at him.
Herbert raised an eyebrow before whispering in my ear, “Because I know your depths.”
