Chapter 883:
“They say that William had a relationship with his stepmother’s daughter. Apparently, this girl is no ordinary person. William was entangled with her, and Daniel Morgan forced his son to marry his stepdaughter. That’s why William cut off all ties with his father.”
“I’ve heard about that too,” I nodded.
I hadn’t mentioned it to Linda, but the truth was that Connie had once ruined my mother’s marriage. Those things were in the past now, and I didn’t want to bring them up again for the time being.
Bella’s POV:
At that moment, several of Linda’s friends came over to chat with her. Since I wasn’t familiar with them, I smiled politely, turned around, and walked over to a waiter. I reached for a glass of juice from his tray.
Just then, I noticed a woman walking in from the entrance, clearly angry. It was Emma.
As expected, she was here.
I paused for a moment when I saw her. Emma was a very vain person, so I had expected her to wear a luxurious dress to this event. But today, she was dressed in a simple outfit—black trousers and a khaki shirt. Her hair was styled casually, and her makeup was minimal, not even as polished as before.
Seeing her, I couldn’t help but glance at William, who was standing nearby. He was holding his girlfriend’s shoulder, chatting and laughing with everyone. I had a feeling that Emma would be looking for trouble with him again tonight.
I stood between William and Emma. Emma was the first to notice me and then spotted William in the crowd. When she saw that William had his new girlfriend with him, her face twisted with rage.
I couldn’t help but smirk. This woman was relentless. She had already broken up with William, so why was she still pestering him? It was pointless. If anything, it would only push him further away.
Not wanting to get involved in their conflict, I turned to leave, but Emma stepped in front of me.
“Bella, are you really enjoying seeing me fall? Do you want to see me suffer even more?” Emma snapped angrily.
I had never encountered someone so savage. No wonder William had been avoiding her.
“That’s just how you see it,” I replied calmly.
I noticed that Emma’s fists were clenched tightly as she glared at me. Her voice trembled with anger as she shouted, “Let me tell you, I’m just unlucky for now. But in the future, maybe you’ll end up suffering even more than I am now!”
I was truly annoyed by Emma’s jealous personality, especially when she always compared herself to me. I felt like she was nothing more than a piece of disgusting chewing gum—difficult to get rid of once it stuck.
Time will prove everything. My expression remained calm despite the tension.
I really didn’t want to compare myself to Emma. In fact, I even disdained the thought of doing so. None of her words could provoke me.
However, Emma became even angrier. She suddenly took a step forward and waved her arms, as if she intended to hit me.
I immediately took a step back. If we were outside, I would’ve fought back without hesitation. But this was a banquet, and I didn’t want to turn it into a spectacle. Still, if she kept provoking me, I wouldn’t be afraid to defend myself.
