Bride of Mr. Billion - Chapter 88

Chapter 88:

On the day of my discharge, Herbert personally came to pick me up. We walked side by side out of the ward, with Connor following behind, carrying my belongings.

I glanced at Herbert and teased, “You came to pick me up from the hospital. Couldn’t you at least wear something brighter? You dress like a black crow every day.”

Herbert looked down at his black suit and responded in a stiff tone, “I’ve never worn anything other than black and white.”

“Can’t you at least try something different?” I asked, unable to hide my curiosity.

“I’m used to it,” he replied.

Why are you so stubborn? How do you know the effect if you don’t try?” I tried to persuade him. However, Herbert pulled a long face and replied, “Don’t try to change me. It doesn’t make any sense to you.”

After that, he went to the car, opened the door, and sat down. I was a little frustrated. Wasn’t it just a suggestion to let him try some other colors of clothes? Why was he so serious about it?

I had bought him a lot of black and white clothes while he was away. It seemed like it was a waste of money. But then again, it wasn’t really a loss. After all, I just swiped his card.

Finally, Connor opened the car door for me. After I got in, I saw that Herbert’s face was still cold. I decided to deliberately ignore him. No one spoke during the ride home.

As soon as we entered the house, a middle-aged woman in her fifties came over and smiled, saying, “Sir, Madam, you’re back. The meal is ready. It’s all your favorite dishes. Oh, and there are also your favorite dishes.”

I carefully studied the woman in front of me, confirming that I had never seen her before. Then I looked at Herbert with confusion.

However, Herbert didn’t respond to my unspoken question. Instead, he changed into his slippers and said, “Get ready to eat. I have arrangements in the afternoon.”

“Yes,” she nodded and went to prepare dinner.

I wondered to myself, “Is this woman a nanny? Does she know I’m supposed to rest for a few days, so she’s come to do the housework?” In an instant, I wasn’t angry with Herbert anymore. During the time I spent with him, I had come to realize that although he was sometimes gentle, other times irritable, and his words weren’t always pleasant, he was actually kind-hearted. He thought of others, but never showed it directly.

I didn’t have to be angry with him all the time. Maybe it wasn’t his silence that made me upset, but my own reaction to it.

The dishes on the table included a toad steamed egg, which I loved.

Thinking back, the nanny had said she’d prepared my favorite dishes.

This was my first time meeting her, so how could she possibly know I liked this dish?

I looked up at Herbert sitting across from me. He must be the one who told the nanny, right?

Despite his usual serious demeanor, he was quite attentive. I couldn’t help but smile.

“Miranda, sit down and eat,” Herbert said.

“Sir, there’s no such rule,” Miranda smiled in response.

I looked up at this person named Miranda. Herbert seemed to be familiar with her, acting as though they had known each other.

Herbert frowned.
