Chapter 823:
Hearing her scream, I couldn’t help but frown.
In fact, I regretted my actions a little. I shouldn’t have been so harsh just now.
But as I watched Bella turn over, curling up with her eyes closed, I felt a bit of relief.
She was asleep, holding onto the pillow, and I frowned, my face darkening. I turned to leave, but as I reached the door, my steps faltered. I paused for a moment, then slowly walked back.
Glancing at her, still fast asleep, I bent down to take off the high heels from her feet. Gently, I helped her out of her professional dress, covered her with a quilt, turned off the light, and left the room quietly.
Bella’s POV:
The next morning, Bella was awakened by the sound of birds chirping.
As she opened her sleepy eyes, a sharp pain shot through her head. Rubbing her forehead, she struggled to sit up. She realized she was lying in bed, only in her underwear, with no memory of the night before. She didn’t know how she had gotten back, and her mind was blank. All she felt was exhaustion and the pounding ache in her head. She winced at the pain and promised herself she wouldn’t drink so much again in the future.
It was getting late. She didn’t have the strength to move right away, but after struggling for a few minutes, she finally got up, changed, and went to wash up. After grabbing her bag, she went downstairs.
As soon as she stepped downstairs, Miranda came over with a smile.
“Miss Stepanek, are you awake?”
“Yes.”
Bella was about to ask how she had gotten back the night before, but as she looked toward the dining room, she saw a familiar figure sitting at the table, eating. She decided not to ask.
Miranda spoke again, “Miss Stepanek, you were quite drunk last night. You must feel empty in your stomach now, right? I made you some light soup. I’ve already filled it for you. You should eat it while it’s hot.”
“Thank you,” Bella said with some embarrassment before she turned toward the dining room.
When Bella approached the table, Herbert was sitting there, looking down at his newspaper while eating, ignoring her.
She didn’t want to initiate a conversation, so she kept quiet. Instead, she looked up and saw Lucas eating his breakfast, while Gary was feeding Lucky in his arms.
“Mommy, were you drunk last night?” Lucas asked.
As soon as I sat down in my seat, Lucas, sitting opposite me, suddenly asked, “Mommy, were you drunk last night?”
“I…”
I didn’t know how to respond to his question.
Bella’s POV:
“Lucas, focus and eat!”
At that moment, Herbert’s stern voice suddenly echoed through the room.
Hearing this, Lucas winked at me before obediently lowering his head to eat.
I glanced up at Herbert, only to find that he was still looking down, not meeting my gaze at all.
