Chapter 800:
“Don’t fool around, Betty. Can’t you see Mother isn’t doing well? Are you trying to make her even more upset?”
Betty shot me a look and said, “My dear sister, we don’t have a good relationship, but surely you won’t stand by while the mistress bullies me, will you?”
I sighed deeply. I knew that Betty and I couldn’t clear this up right now. The person who really mattered needed to step forward and clear things up.
I turned to Hank, who had been silent until now, and shouted, “Hank, if you’re a man, come out and stop letting these two women fight over you. Don’t let them take all the blame!”
Two minutes later, an elegant man in a gray and white suit stepped into view.
Seeing him, Betty immediately pointed at Hank and shouted, “Hank, you coward! You finally came out!”
Elsamara looked concerned when she saw Hank. She stepped forward and whispered, “Why did you come out? I didn’t ask you to. I can handle this on my own.”
Hank glanced at Betty coldly. When he turned to Elsamara, his eyes softened, and he whispered, “I’m a man. I should take responsibility for this.”
Watching the exchange, I realized that Hank and Elsamara truly cared for each other. It was over between him and Betty.
In that moment, I felt a pang of sadness for Betty. But this outcome had been foreseeable, even if I hadn’t expected it to come so quickly.
I then asked, “Hank, what’s your relationship with this woman? Don’t you realize that you haven’t even divorced yet, and here you are, with another lover? Don’t you feel ashamed or guilty?”
Although Betty’s actions might have seemed extreme, she was right to stand on moral grounds. If a divorce happened, Hank would bear the blame, since he had been the one to cheat.
“This man is married with a child, and yet he’s out looking for a mistress. Just look at your child—she’s so pitiful! You have no sympathy!” Ryan, holding Anne in his arms, added, cursing Hank.
The onlookers stared at Hank with contempt, and I couldn’t help but glance at Ryan. I muttered, “Shut up!”
Hank then spoke up, “Betty, I’m sorry.”
“Are you done with your apology? What is your relationship with this woman? Tell me!” Betty demanded, pointing at Elsamara.
Hank turned to Elsamara, and with a resigned tone, said, “I’m in a relationship with her. I love her.”
I was stunned. Hank, a man who had always seemed so composed, was publicly admitting to his affair. He was actually confessing that he had cheated on his marriage. It was clear now—he truly loved Elsamara.
My heart felt heavy. Hank was not a bad person, contrary to what I might have believed before. On the contrary, he was very principled. The situation he found himself in today was a result of Betty’s actions as well.
Perhaps this was the end of Betty’s madness. After the divorce, maybe she could find peace. For her, it might be a blessing in disguise.
I turned to Anne, still sobbing in Ryan’s arms. The damage to her was already done. She would have to endure the strain of her parents’ arguments from such a young age. And now, with her parents likely divorcing, she would have to face life with a single parent.
