Chapter 761:
That evening, after coming home from work, I walked to the door of the villa and saw Herbert’s black Bentley parked outside. Knowing that he was back, a wave of joy rushed through me. I hurried inside and found Gary playing with Lucky. When Lucky saw me, she spread her small arms and shouted, “Mommy, mommy!”
I quickly went to her and asked, “Is Herbert back?”
“He’s been back for over an hour,” Gary replied.
“He’s upstairs talking to Connor. Miranda went to pick up Lucas.”
I nodded, kissed Lucky’s cheek, and said happily, “Mommy will take you to Daddy, okay?”
“Okay,” Lucky said with a nod.
I then carried her upstairs, my heart light with the happiness of Herbert returning home. Any anger I had felt earlier in the week had completely vanished. All that remained now was the joy of having him back.
As I walked faster up the stairs with Lucky in my arms, I reached the study. The door was half-closed, and I could hear Herbert and Connor talking inside.
“Let’s make the arrangements as soon as possible. We can’t afford any mistakes.”
It was Herbert’s voice.
“I’ll immediately instruct my subordinates to handle it,” Connor replied.
When I heard them talking about work, I stopped at the door, not wanting to disturb them. After a moment, Connor shifted the topic. Suddenly, he asked, “Mr. Wharton, how’s everything with Master going?”
Herbert fell silent for a moment before responding, “I’ve already taken care of everything. There shouldn’t be any major issues.”
“Since that’s the case, can you and Miss Stepanek get married again soon?” Connor asked.
Standing outside the door, I was taken aback by his words. I couldn’t help but wonder, “The ‘master’ must be Herbert’s father. Did something happen to him?” But when I heard that it wasn’t something serious, I felt a sense of relief.
Then, I overheard Connor asking the very question I had been wondering about for days, and I couldn’t help but feel nervous. I wanted to know how Herbert felt about remarriage.
After a moment, Herbert’s voice came from the half-closed door.
“I don’t have any plans to remarry her for the time being.”
When I heard those words, I was stunned.
Bella’s POV:
“Actually…” Connor started to say, but Herbert interrupted him.
“I feel that I’m in a good place. Even if I don’t get married, my children and I are still a happy family.”
Hearing this, I felt a little uncomfortable. I wanted to marry him again.
Love was between two people, and so was marriage. This time, though, he was the same as before. He made up his mind without even asking me how I felt.
I really didn’t like that feeling.
“Mom…”
