Chapter 745:
He took a step closer and said, his voice full of sincerity, “I love you.”
I froze in shock. Those words, which I had longed to hear, caught me off guard. Over the years, our relationship had been filled with love and conflict, but outside of one occasion when he expressed his feelings, he had never said those words.
I knew Herbert wasn’t one to easily express himself, but I still wanted to hear it—especially now, after everything we’d been through together.
I was delighted by his words, but I couldn’t resist teasing him further.
“What did you say? I didn’t hear you clearly,” I said, pretending not to have caught his confession.
Herbert’s eyes sparkled with mischief, and before I could react, he leaned close to my ear and shouted, “I said I love you!”
Then, with a playful yet determined look, he added, “Let me use my body to show you how much I love you.”
Without another word, he entered me again, his actions speaking louder than any words could.
Bella’s POV:
That day, I simply didn’t have the energy to go to the park and find Lucky. I ended up sleeping until dusk. As a result, I started to dread weekends at home because I spent most of them in bed.
On Monday morning, Herbert insisted on driving me to work. Connor was driving in front, while Herbert and I were sitting side by side in the back seat. I decided to take this opportunity to ask Connor directly, “Connor, do you have a girlfriend?”
Connor replied, “Not yet.”
“Why don’t I introduce a friend to you?” I asked without hesitation.
When Connor heard this, he turned around to glance at Herbert before saying, “Thank you, Miss Stepanek, but I haven’t thought about it yet.”
“Connor, you can just treat it as meeting a friend. You can get to know each other first…” I began to suggest, but Connor quickly interrupted.
“Miss Stepanek, I’m sorry, I really don’t have any interest in this for the time being.”
I was left speechless, unsure of what to say next. It was clear that he was rejecting the idea outright.
The atmosphere grew a bit tense. Herbert reached over and tugged at my sleeve, offering a slight smile.
“Connor’s aesthetic standards are different from mine,” he said with a teasing tone.
“You shouldn’t worry about it.”
I could tell that Herbert was the one who had probably asked Connor to turn me down. But there wasn’t much I could do about it. Looking at Connor, so handsome and capable, I couldn’t help but wish he would at least consider Joey. As Joey’s best friend, I just wanted to see them together. However, it had to be Connor’s choice, and I couldn’t force it.
Joey was eager to go on a date now, and as her friend, I felt responsible for helping her meet someone suitable. So, I decided I would start by considering my colleagues at work. If I found anyone who seemed right for her, I would definitely introduce them.
After dinner that evening, I played games with Lucas and Lucky in the living room while Herbert sat on the sofa, watching the news.
