Chapter 707:
I looked at her with a serious face.
“Thank you, Linia.”
As I watched her leave, I couldn’t help but wonder who had sent this breakfast.
“Then I’m heading out to work now.” Linia covered her mouth and left.
The door was closed. I stared at the takeout breakfast for more than ten seconds before finally opening it.
It was my favorite German chicken roll, along with a sandwich and a carton of milk. Without hesitation, I began my breakfast. Halfway through, I suddenly remembered how Linia had smirked when she looked at my neck.
I immediately set the chicken roll down, stood up, and walked to the bookcase, pulling out a small mirror from the drawer.
Oh my god! I noticed several kiss marks on my neck.
I had been in such a hurry this morning that I hadn’t even noticed them.
Then, I pulled open my collar, only to find more hickeys on my chest.
The memories of last night flooded back, and my cheeks instantly flushed.
Linia must have seen them just now.
Knowing her, the news of those hickeys was probably already spreading around the office.
How would I face the public eye, especially my colleagues? I didn’t want anyone in the company to know about my relationship with Herbert—especially not Linda.
Bella’s POV:
I found a silk scarf in the drawer and tied it around my neck in front of the mirror. Then, I continued working.
I needed to find Linda to get a document signed, but given what had happened with Herbert last night, I didn’t really want to see her.
After all, Linda liked Herbert, and she was my superior. I couldn’t help but feel a little guilty.
I took a few deep breaths to calm myself down.
As soon as I opened the door, I overheard whispers from outside.
“Linia, who do you think left those hickeys on Bella’s neck?”
As soon as she said that, the women outside covered their mouths and laughed. Linia chuckled.
“You don’t know, do you? Last night, I was at the company dinner hosted by the president of Wharton Group. I saw Mr. Wharton’s personal assistant, Connor, taking special care of Bella.”
“Bella drank too much last night. It was Connor who sent her home. No, wait… I don’t know if they went home or somewhere else, but something definitely happened!”
After Selina and Jeremy were fired, I took over Selina’s position, and Linia was promoted to assistant manager of Group Six. She’d attended the dinner party last night. Hearing all of this, I frowned and wanted to step out and explain. But how could I?
Should I say I didn’t do anything with Connor, but with Herbert instead? Wouldn’t that make it worse?
