Chapter 62:
At that moment, Herbert looked up at me. I was sure he saw me.
The next second, he spoke, “You look so beautiful today.”
Emma touched her face excitedly, grinning as she said, “Really? Do you think it’s my clothes or my face?”
Herbert replied, “The clothes are beautiful.”
He paused for a moment, then continued, “But you’re more beautiful.”
Grinning, she gently pushed back on Herbert’s chest…
I didn’t want to watch anymore.
I withdrew my hand, and though the door was closed, I could still hear their laughter inside.
I slowly turned and looked in the direction of the exit.
“Please let Mr. Wharton know that I’ll have lunch by myself in the future.”
Before Connor could reply, I had already turned and left. I was afraid I might cry in front of him, so I hurried out of the restaurant.
I looked up at the sky, but I didn’t let the tears fall. I told myself, “I can’t cry. I already knew this was how today would go when I got the marriage certificate with Herbert. Why am I still so stupid, thinking I could give him my feelings? He’s a man who has everything. How could someone like him love an ordinary woman like me?”
“We got involved by accident. In the future, I can just treat him as the father of my child. Everything else is just acting.”

And the two days at the resort? It was just a dream. I’m about to wake up from it…
Herbert’s POV:
I don’t know who told Emma that I’d be in this restaurant at noon.
When she came here, it was during lunch for Bella and me. I knew Bella was outside, so I deliberately stayed close to Emma. In reality, I just wanted to confirm something — I wanted to see if Bella truly cared about me.
If a person really loved someone, they wouldn’t stand by while the other person was being intimate with someone else.
Just like how I felt about Hank.
I had been waiting.
Waiting for Bella to burst in, to confront me or show some sign of anger toward us.
But she didn’t.
She left on her own. The sense of loss hit me hard. I looked at the watch on my wrist. Bella had been gone for five minutes. She must have already left.
I stood up and turned to Emma.
“I have a last-minute appointment. You can stay and eat by yourself.”
Emma quickly stood up, taking my arm, and smiled.
“Herbert, you need to eat first if you have another appointment. You’ll get a stomachache if you don’t.”
I pushed her hand away, saying firmly, “I’m leaving now.”
With that, I turned and walked out of the room.
Connor and I got into the lift, one after the other. I asked, “How is she reacting?”
“Let me tell you, she’ll be eating alone from now on.”
