Chapter 594:
“You can leave now,” she said, not looking up from her computer.
“I’m fine with the budget, but I have a personal issue,” I replied.
Selina, probably anticipating this, raised her head and sneered.
“Do you want to clarify things with Jeremy? That’s your private matter. Whoever you’re involved with is none of my business. But don’t get me involved in company issues. You’ve switched jobs enough times to know the rules. I don’t need to repeat them, do I?”
Looking at her contemptuous smile, I felt a surge of anger. She was truly a piece of work. She could be as manipulative as she wanted, but always maintained the appearance of innocence. She was much smarter than Emma, but she was also shallow. I sneered in return, “Jessica, Selina, you have your tricks. I’ve learned a thing or two from you. But you’re just a little clever. People like you won’t go far.”
I grabbed the materials in my hands and turned toward the door. I had no intention of arguing with her. It wouldn’t do me any good, and it would only give the others a reason to laugh at me.
I heard her yell from behind, “You don’t need to warn me. At least I’m your boss now. At least I’m living better than you!”
I frowned at her words and immediately turned back.
“You should add a time limit. For now, you’re just temporarily my boss. And for now, you’re only living a little better than me.”
Before she could respond, I opened the door and walked out. Selina, being the leader of Group Six, didn’t chase after me or argue further.
After work, I boarded the bus with a stack of thick materials in my arms. Sitting there, I felt conflicted.
“Should I admit defeat and be eliminated, or should I make a last effort?” I thought to myself, looking at the budget in my arms. What would it matter if I amended it again? The other party would surely still not be satisfied. Their goal wasn’t to get a normal business plan; they had ulterior motives.
Thinking about Selina’s haughty attitude, Jeremy’s harassment, and the disdain of my colleagues, I decided I would make another attempt. This time, though, I couldn’t just work on the budget. I had to find the real problem. It seemed like I needed to find a way to address it.
I quickly called Joey. I wanted her to help me gather some information about the new boss of that company. Maybe she could find a way out for me.
Knowing that I would be very busy this weekend, I sent a text message to Herbert.
“I’ll have to work overtime this weekend. Please have Gary take care of Lucky for the next two days. Don’t send Lucas here this weekend. Thank you.”
Bella’s POV:
Hearing the words of the two female employees, I understood. No wonder all the women in the office were unwilling to approach me. It turned out to be because of Selina.
This Selina was truly insidious. She had spread rumors to the employees, and her intention was clearly to have everyone push me away so I couldn’t stay here any longer. Perhaps it wasn’t only because she wanted me to leave the company, but also because she wanted to ensure I couldn’t survive here.
Thinking of this, I clenched the tissue in my hand.
