Chapter 576:
Mother sighed and replied, “He says he couldn’t continue with Connie. As he gets older, he misses his daughter more. He’s nostalgic for our family, so he divorced Connie and came back to us.”
I found Ryan’s words completely untrustworthy.
“Mom, do you really believe him?” I asked.
Mother lowered her head and fell silent. I could see the uncertainty in her, and it made me anxious.
“Mom, you’re not kicking him out now because of the past, but you have to understand—you can’t make peace with him. Otherwise, your future will be ruined!” I said urgently.
At that moment, Mother’s eyes became filled with determination.
“Don’t worry. I’ll never make peace with Ryan. I only let him in because I felt sorry for him and because Betty asked me. But it’s absolutely impossible for me to reconcile with him,” she said firmly.
I felt a sense of relief upon hearing that. Then, I said, “No wonder Betty accepted Ryan so easily. Now she wants him to help her deal with Hank.”
“Betty refuses to let go of Hank, and Ryan has taught her all sorts of bad methods. She’s listening to him. I really don’t know what’s going to happen,” Mother said worriedly.
At that moment, I began to feel more concerned.
If this continued, Betty and Hank would probably become enemies. The adults could handle it, but what about Anne? Would she end up with a mother without a father or a father without a mother after they divorce? I was deeply troubled by this thought. Although I knew that Betty’s actions would only push Hank further away and make Anne resent him more, Betty wouldn’t listen to me. Instead, she would accuse me of trying to ruin her relationship with Hank.
So, in the end, I told Mother, “Mom, tell Betty that before she does anything, she needs to think about what’s best for Anne.”
“She doesn’t listen to my advice at all. She seems to resonate so much with Ryan. How could I not see that Betty has inherited his traits?”
Mother said helplessly.
Hearing this, I stayed silent, unsure of what to say. I could only observe for now.
Before I left, Mother took my hand and said, “Bella, I know this is the hardest time for you. You need my help the most, but given our current situation, there’s not much I can do.”
Seeing the guilt in Mother’s eyes, I quickly smiled and reassured her, “Mom, I’m living a good life with Lucky now. I’ll bring her and Lucas to visit you next time.”
“If you have time, come see me. The house is a mess, and we end up arguing every time you visit,” Mother said gently. I could feel her deep concern for me, and it made me happy.
“Mom, if you need anything, just call me. Remember what I told you: if things get tough, let them stay here. Move in with me, and I’ll find a bigger place,” I suggested.
“Yes, don’t worry,” she nodded.
