Chapter 574:
Betty continued to argue, “He was wrong in the past, but now he knows it. Isn’t it normal for him to want to return to the family? Many men can’t resist the temptations of the outside world when they’re young, but they still return to their wives and children when they get older.”
I was at a loss for words. How did she become like this?
“Betty, do you really think this man is willing to return to Mother’s side? He was just hurt by Connie. Once he has other options, do you think he’ll still stay with Mother?” I said, looking at Betty with sadness.
In the past, I thought Betty had targeted me because of Hank, but now I understood why Hank had said they had no common ground.
Betty sneered at me.
“I let you down? Didn’t you let me down? Didn’t you let Mom down? Didn’t you let this whole family down? You could’ve lived a good life and married a good man, but instead, you cause trouble every day. You’re the worst!”
“You…” I was so angry that my hands began to shake.
Mother shouted, “Don’t fight, okay? You argue as soon as you come back. What kind of life do you want to live?”
Betty went straight to the sofa, sat down, and buried her face in her hands, looking frustrated. I glanced at Ryan and Betty. The atmosphere in the house was suffocating. I couldn’t stand being there for another minute.
With a deep sigh, I said, “Maybe I shouldn’t have come back. Mom, I brought you some food. I’m leaving.”
“Bella…”
As soon as I turned around, my mother called out. I stopped, sensing the sadness in her voice. I couldn’t help but think, Is my mother unwilling to accept Ryan, but feels forced to do so?
At that moment, Betty’s phone rang, and she immediately answered.
“How is it? Okay, we’ll go there right away. Don’t move. Keep an eye on him!”
After hanging up, Betty turned to Ryan, her voice full of urgency.
“Dad, our spy saw Hank go to school. We need to go there now.”
“Okay,” Ryan nodded, and the two of them, with Anne in Betty’s arms, hurriedly left the house.
Watching them leave, I frowned and turned to my mother, asking softly, “Mom, what are they doing?”
Mother looked distressed as she replied, “What else can they do? They’re going to confront Hank.”
I couldn’t help but frown further at her words.
Then, Mother continued, “You haven’t been home for a few months, so you don’t know. Hank has already filed for divorce. To go through with it, he’s even resigned from his position at the college. Betty has been living here with Anne for a while now.”
I realized then that Hank had made up his mind.
“Is Betty still unwilling to divorce him?” I asked, my concern growing. Betty thought that Hank would be reluctant to part with Anne, so she had moved back with Anne, threatening that if Hank didn’t stop, she would never let him see his daughter.
