Chapter 570:
Herbert softened his tone, “Isn’t it hard for you to take care of her on your own? This hospitalization is proof of how exhausted you are. You’ve been working too hard. And if you keep doing this, Lucky won’t get the best care she deserves.”
“You’ve said all of that just to take her away from me!” I said, staring at him with suspicion.
Herbert suddenly laughed, which caught me off guard.
“What are you laughing at?” I glared at him.
“First of all, I want to make it clear that I never intended to fight you for the right to raise Lucky, and I won’t have that intention in the future,” Herbert said, his tone sincere.
“Then what do you want to discuss with me?” I asked, surprised.
“I have a suggestion. If you agree, we’ll go ahead with it. If you don’t, I’ll respect your decision,” Herbert said, trying to explain himself.
Herbert’s assurance that he didn’t want to compete with me for the right to raise Lucky, along with his calm demeanor, helped ease my anxiety. I took a deep breath and asked, “What is your suggestion?”
Bella’s POV:
“My suggestion is for Gaynor to take care of Lucky during the day, and you can find a job. You’re an accountant, so it should be easy for you to find a job, and your salary won’t be low. You’ll have good career development in the future,” Herbert explained.
He continued, “You can take care of Lucky at night. This way, she won’t feel unfamiliar with you. What do you think?”
“Of course, I’ll cover Gaynor’s salary,” Herbert added.
“I’m Lucky’s father. I should pay for that,” he said, his tone calm and considerate. Herbert’s approach to the situation surprised me, and I was taken aback by how understanding he was. It wasn’t what I had expected from him.
Although his suggestion was practical, a sense of disappointment still lingered in me. The thought of not being with Lucky all the time in the future bothered me. After all, we hadn’t been apart for more than a year, and the idea of being separated from her made me hesitant.
Herbert continued, “You can take full care of Lucky on the weekends. Lucas would probably want to be with you too. With both children, you’ll be busy, but you’ll be able to manage.”
It was his last sentence that made me reconsider. After all, earning more money would give me the confidence to raise both Lucky and Lucas on my own.
Although Herbert was wealthy and I didn’t have to worry about the children’s material needs, I still wanted to provide for them with my own ability. I wanted to show them my love as their mother, with my own efforts.
So, after some consideration, I nodded and said, “Okay, I accept your suggestion.”
A smile spread across Herbert’s face.
“I hope you keep your promise and never try to compete with me for the right to raise Lucky!” I added, my voice firm.
“I promise you, the right to raise Lucky will only belong to you! You’re her mother, and of course, you have the absolute right to be with her and raise her,” Herbert nodded.
“Thank you.” I felt a sense of relief wash over me.
