Chapter 546:
I didn’t respond.
“Bella, why are you crying?” he asked softly.
Hank asked, his voice filled with concern. Hearing this, I quickly wiped my cheeks and answered, though somewhat distantly, “No… nothing.”
He pressed further.
“Bella, aren’t you happy now?”
I was silent for a moment, unsure how to respond.
If he had asked me this question just half an hour ago, I would have told him that I was truly happy. But now, everything had changed. I knew that soon, everyone would find out that the wedding had been canceled.
Hank continued, his voice softer this time.
“I thought you had found happiness, and in my heart, I wished you well. But it doesn’t seem to be that way now…”
Bella’s POV:
I interrupted Hank before he could say anything else.
“Hank, whether I’m happy or not is my business. It has nothing to do with you. You should be focusing on Betty and your child!”
Although I didn’t have a good relationship with Betty, she was still my sister. I didn’t want her to be unhappy, nor did I want her to hate me.
Hank’s face contorted with pain. After a few moments of silence, he spoke, his voice strained.
“Bella, I really can’t continue living with Betty.”
“What do you mean?” I asked, furrowing my brows. Before Hank could answer, a sharp female voice cut through the air behind me.
“Don’t you understand what he means? If you cancel the wedding, he’ll divorce me, and then you can build your new family!”
I turned around and saw Betty striding over in high heels, her posture confident and arrogant. When she glanced at Hank, her expression was indifferent, but when her eyes landed on me, they were full of disdain. It seemed Hank and I were her enemies now.
“Betty, what are you talking about?” I demanded, my voice cold.
Hank growled at Betty, his frustration evident.
“What nonsense are you spouting?”
“Am I talking nonsense?” Betty snapped.
“You’ve been married to me for almost three years. Have you ever truly forgotten her? The way you look at her now is more gentle than the way you look at me. Do you think I’m a fool?”
Betty’s anger boiled over as she shouted at Hank.
Hank’s face twisted in pain. With a frustrated stomp, he finally shouted, “Yes! You’re right. I’ve always liked Bella. I’ve liked her for all these years, and I’ve never stopped!”
“Hank, you’re not human!” Betty cried out, taking two steps back and bending over as if struck. Tears immediately welled up in her eyes.
