Chapter 537:
“Who are they?”
“They’re just two people I’m not very familiar with,” Klein replied quickly.
I wasn’t buying it.
“I remember they’re the two men who hurt me!”
The panic on Klein’s face was now unmistakable, and my doubts grew stronger.
“Did you send those two men two years ago?” I asked, my voice shaking with frustration.
Klein couldn’t even meet my eyes. I saw regret and frustration in his expression, and I knew something was wrong.
“Klein, I’m truly disappointed.”
With those words, I turned around and started to walk away. I couldn’t accept the reality of what had happened. Klein had actually bribed those two thugs to hurt me, and when the time was right, he swooped in to “save” me, playing the hero.
From the beginning, I had believed Klein was a kind man. He helped me so much, understood me like no one else, and loved me deeply. But I never imagined that he would use such a despicable scheme. In my heart, he was a knight—a knight who would come to my rescue whenever I was in danger. I never expected that the very dangers I feared had been orchestrated by this knight himself.

“Klein, I’m done with this. There’s nothing you can say to make me understand,” I said, my voice cold and full of hurt.
Klein quickly stepped in front of me, his voice desperate.
“Bella, let me explain, please. I never meant to hurt you.”
“What more is there to explain?” I shot back, anger rising in my chest.
“I admit,” Klein said, his voice wavering, “those two bastards were arranged by me. But my goal wasn’t to hurt you. It was to get close to you, to understand you better. At the time, you were so distant, and I didn’t have a chance to get close to you. I never meant any harm. I didn’t expect them to behave like that.”
I was beyond angry. I roared, “Does love excuse everything? Can you just deny your mistakes because of it?”
That incident had done so much damage to me. I had never been so terrified in my life. The memory of that day still made me shiver with fear. But now, to find out that everything had been deliberately planned by someone I trusted—someone who was about to become my husband—was a betrayal I could not handle.
Klein reached out, grabbing my shoulders, his face full of regret.
“Bella, I’m sorry, I’m so sorry! It was all my fault. Please, punish me if you need to, but don’t look at me with those cold, hateful eyes.”
I shoved him away with all the strength I had left, my voice full of venom.
“Before tonight, I trusted you completely. If you had asked me to give my life for you, I wouldn’t have hesitated. But now? You’ve destroyed that trust.”
Bella’s POV:
After my argument with Klein, I left the house. I walked farther and farther, until I was completely exhausted. Finally, I sat by the road, cold and weary. By this time, the sun had completely set, and the lights in the distant houses looked like stars scattered across the sky. Each light represented a home, a family, a place where someone was cared for and loved. I felt incredibly lonely in that moment. All these years, I had never truly had a home. I thought I would have a warm, loving home with Klein, but now, after everything that had happened, I was lost. I didn’t know where to go or what to do.
The cold wind by the river made me shiver and brought me back to reality. I realized that Klein’s actions—bribing others to harm me—were wrong, and they had caused me a great deal of pain. But when I reflected on everything that had happened before, I couldn’t ignore how good Klein had been to me. He took me to his grandmother’s house, offered me a place when I had nowhere else to go, and protected me during my lowest moments. He’d been there when I was bullied, and he treated Lucky like his own. He even accepted Lucas, despite everything. Apart from that one mistake, I couldn’t find fault with him.
