Chapter 536:
I looked at him, feeling a knot tighten in my chest.
“I took a walk in the park for a while.”
Klein seemed taken aback, and his expression was a bit off.
“It’s quite cold today. Why go to the park?”
The look on Klein’s face already told me something was wrong. The connection between him and those two men seemed too suspicious, but I didn’t want to believe it. I asked cautiously, “Klein, where were you just now?”
“I’ve been at home ever since I came back from the company. I was just about to look for you.”
His words seemed sincere, but I knew he was lying. The more he hid, the more it made me question things.
At that moment, Klein stepped closer and placed his hands on my shoulders.
“What’s wrong with you? You look so pale.”
“I’m just a little uncomfortable. I’m going to rest.”
I pushed his hand away and turned to go back to the bedroom. Lying on the pillow, I felt physically and mentally exhausted. There were only three days left before our wedding, but after discovering this disturbing information, what was I supposed to do?
Bella’s POV:
“You seem very sad. Is it because you’ve parted with Lucas?” Klein’s voice was soft and gentle.
“No.”
I looked at his calm face, almost like a delicate mask. What would he be like beneath that mask? I didn’t dare to continue thinking about it. After all, before tonight, Klein was the person I trusted the most. Emotionally and logically, I didn’t want to doubt him.
“What is the reason?” Klein asked, pausing for a moment before adding, “Is it premarital anxiety? After all, you’re about to have a brand new identity—you’re going to become Klein’s wife.”
“No!” I said seriously, meeting his gaze.
My mind was consumed by thoughts of the meeting between those two men and Klein. Why were they in contact with him? Klein’s expression grew more solemn.
“What’s going on?” he asked, concern beginning to show in his tone.
I hesitated for a moment before deciding to voice my doubts. Perhaps it was just a misunderstanding. Maybe things weren’t as I imagined. After all, Klein was my future husband, and I really didn’t want to suspect him.
“I was taking a walk in the park earlier,” I started, watching Klein’s expression closely.
His face seemed to shift slightly, an almost imperceptible panic flashing across it. I continued, “I saw two people talking to you.”
I expected Klein to offer me an honest answer, but instead, he seemed to be deflecting.
“I just ran into two people I know,” he said with a nervous laugh.
I wasn’t satisfied with his answer and pressed on.
