Chapter 531:
When Herbert saw me and Lucky, he placed Lucas on the ground and took his hand. They walked toward us. Herbert glanced at me before his eyes settled on Lucky in the stroller. Lucky was wearing a pink down jacket with a rabbit-shaped hat on her head. Her big eyes were wide open, looking around, unaware of what was happening.
Herbert seemed a little excited as he looked at her. He glanced at me and asked, “Can I carry her?”
“Of course,” I replied, nodding.
I carefully lifted Lucky from the stroller and walked over to Herbert, gently handing her to him. He held her carefully in his arms, his posture stiff because of his injured arm, as he was afraid of making her uncomfortable. A cute sound escaped from Lucky’s mouth as Herbert rested his cheek against her chubby face. In that moment, I saw the excitement in Herbert’s eyes and the deep fatherly love he had for his daughter.
This instinctive love couldn’t be faked.
Lucky giggled happily, and as I looked up, I saw Herbert spinning her in the air. She was too young to be afraid, enjoying the thrill of it all. I noticed that one of Herbert’s arms was still bandaged, and I felt a little worried. I took a step forward, my hands hovering in the air, unsure whether to stop him. But I couldn’t bring myself to intervene; Lucky was truly happy in that moment.
At this point, Lucas stepped forward, raising his hands to signal Herbert to stop.
“Daddy, daddy,” he called.
Herbert lowered Lucky gently and looked down at Lucas.
“Do you want me to spin you around too?”
Lucas shook his head.
“Lucky’s still young, and a girl is delicate. What if I hurt her? I’m different. I’ve grown up, and I’m a man. I’m not afraid of falling!”
I couldn’t help but shake my head and smile at his words. Herbert also chuckled and said, “You’re right. It’s my fault. I won’t raise her up so high next time.”
At that moment, Herbert grew serious again and said, “Bella, is it convenient for you to have a chat with me?”
I lowered my head, hesitating for a moment before replying, “Okay.”
I pushed the stroller to Jane and said, “Jane, please help me take care of Lucky and Lucas.”
Jane nodded and, holding Lucas’s hand with one hand, pushed the stroller with the other as she walked to the side.
Herbert turned around and sat on a nearby bench. I chose to sit on the opposite side of the bench, about half a meter away from him.
“What do you want to talk to me about?” I asked coldly.
“When is your wedding with Klein?” Herbert asked.
“Three days from now,” I replied.
I replied.
