Chapter 524:
“I want to be with Mommy!”
I frowned and lowered my head to look at Lucas. An indescribable feeling stirred in my chest. Herbert also frowned and said in a firm voice, “Don’t make a scene!”
“I’m not making a scene. I just want to be with Mommy!” Lucas raised his little face and said matter-of-factly.
“Are you listening to me or not?” Herbert’s voice grew stern.
At this point, Herbert’s frustration turned into anger. Seeing this, Lucas grew quiet. His little hand slowly let go of mine, and his mouth curled downward in a pout. He looked very sad and vulnerable.
Lucas looked aggrieved, but he didn’t dare to cry. My heart softened at the sight of such a poor, vulnerable little boy. I immediately squatted down, gently placed my hand on his small shoulder, and said in a soft voice, “Lucas, go back with your daddy first. We’ll meet here in three days. I’ll bring some cookies and tarts that I make for you, okay?”
At that, Lucas’s eyes widened in surprise.
“Mommy, you know how to make cookies and tarts?”
“Yes,” I nodded.
This time, Lucas’s face lit up with a happy smile.
“Okay, but you can’t go back on your word.”
“I won’t. I’ll keep my promise. Come on!”
Lucas reached out his little hand for a high-five. Then, he walked over to Herbert, who grabbed his hand and turned to me.
“See you in three days!”
As soon as he finished speaking, Herbert took Lucas’s hand and began to leave. Connor immediately followed. I smiled at Lucas and waved my hand. It was hard to watch him walk further and further away from me.
Herbert’s POV:
Lucas followed Bella into the examination room.
Watching them walk away, I felt a surge of happiness. Soon, Bella would know that Lucas was her child.
Only Klein, Connor, and I remained in the corridor. I glanced at Klein.
“You must be disappointed that there was nothing unusual between Lucas and me, right?”
Klein’s voice was icy when he responded, “I don’t understand what you mean.”
I continued, “But I won’t let your scheme succeed.”
After that, I sat down quietly and waited. Klein turned and sat in a seat far away from me. The tension in the air was palpable, and the atmosphere felt strange and uncomfortable.
Bella’s POV:
Three days later, I stood in the corridor with Lucas, waiting for the results of the DNA test. Though I appeared calm on the outside, a storm of emotions was brewing inside me. It seemed that Lucas could sense the tension. He kept glancing at me, holding the cookies and tarts in his hands but not eating them.
Just then, Klein walked out holding a document. The sight of him instantly made me nervous. My hands, which were holding Lucas’s, became clammy. I hoped that Lucas was truly my son.
