Chapter 519:
“Okay, I won’t touch you.”
Herbert withdrew his hands, stopping mid-air.
“Herbert, don’t try to use Lucas to threaten me. I won’t compromise!”
I shouted at him.
“In your heart, am I really the kind of man who would use our son as a bargaining chip to manipulate you?”
“Yes.”
Herbert’s face twisted with pain.
“You can go.”
Watching his lonely figure, I felt a pang of sadness, but I couldn’t bring myself to trust him again. I turned and walked out the door, my steps unsteady as I left the building. I didn’t know how long I wandered until my legs went numb. Eventually, I found a row of chairs by the roadside and sat down, clutching my leather bag to my chest.
Herbert’s words echoed in my mind, and Lucas’s face lingered in my thoughts. If Lucas was truly my son, I couldn’t deny him. He was so young and had suffered so much. The thought of it made my heart ache.

Somehow, I made it home, though I had no memory of the journey. By the time I arrived, it was already late afternoon.
“Where have you been?”
A voice startled me. I lifted my head to see Klein sitting on the sofa. I frowned and asked, “Why are you at home?”
“I asked where you went.”
Klein’s expression was tense, his brows furrowed.
“Where’s Lucky?”
I glanced around, not seeing Jane or Lucky.
“I asked where you were.”
His voice grew sharper, filled with both interrogation and authority. I hesitated, uncertain if I should tell him what had happened.
“Is it that hard to answer my question?”
Klein’s face darkened, his anger barely restrained.
Could he already know where I had gone?
I remembered telling him this morning that I had an appointment with Joey. He must have seen through my lie. But there was no reason for me to hide anything. I had nothing to do with Herbert anymore. Even if Lucas was my son, I had no reason to feel guilty.
Summoning my courage, I stepped forward and said, “I went to Herbert’s house.”
Klein hesitated for a moment before letting out a cold laugh.
“So, you still can’t forget him. I was too naive.”
He abruptly stood up and turned to leave.
