Chapter 511:
I turned around to leave, but just as I did, Lucas grabbed the hem of my coat and begged, “Mommy, can you listen to my dad?”
Bella’s POV:
I didn’t feel exhausted by Lucas’s crying, but my anger toward Herbert only grew.
“Herbert, Lucas is only three years old. Please don’t use a child to achieve your goal. It’s dangerous for his well-being and will only hurt him!”
With that, I crouched down and gently took Lucas’s small hand, which had been tugging at my clothes. In a serious tone, I said, “I’m not your mommy. Don’t call me that again.”
At that moment, I saw the tears in Lucas’s eyes, and for a second, my resolve faltered. But I forced myself to stand firm. I had to leave. The sadness in Lucas’s eyes made me feel uncomfortable, but I reminded myself that I couldn’t turn back, that I couldn’t keep getting tangled up in Herbert’s manipulations.
“Bella, Lucas is our first child. When you gave birth to him, he didn’t die!”
I had only taken a few steps when Herbert’s voice reached me from behind.
I froze for a moment, but I didn’t turn around.
Those words hit me hard. The child I had lost all those years ago had been a devastating blow. Even now, my heart still ached whenever I thought of that child. It had been my first, after all. Herbert continued, “If you want to know everything, you can come to me anytime.”

“Do you really think I believe you?”
I refused to look back, unwilling to let myself believe what he was saying.
“You’ve missed him for more than three years. Do you really want to miss out on his entire childhood?” Herbert added.
At that, I couldn’t hold myself back. I turned and saw Herbert and Lucas’s backs. The way the adult and child walked together was so similar, almost identical. At that moment, Lucas looked back at me, his eyes filled with such sadness that it made my heart ache even more. I stood there, watching them until they disappeared around the corner of the street. Only then did I turn and walk away.
As I rounded the corner, I saw Klein standing by the car, looking in my direction. I quickened my pace and rushed over to him.
“Why did it take so long?” Klein asked, reaching out to grab my arm.
“That child wouldn’t let me go,” I said, trying my best to smile.
“Did you find that child’s father?” Klein asked, frowning.
“His parents have taken him away. Let’s go back. I’m sure Lucky has been waiting for a long time.”
I didn’t want to mention what had just happened.
“Alright.”
Klein didn’t ask any more questions, and he got in the car with me. That night, as I lay on the bed, watching Lucky sleep, my thoughts began to wander. To be honest, my doubts hadn’t ceased since I returned.
There was no need for a DNA test. Just by looking at Lucas, I knew he had to be Herbert’s son. But how could he claim that Lucas was mine? Suddenly, an important thought crossed my mind. Lucas’s birthday was very close to the date of my miscarriage. I sat up abruptly.
“It can’t be just a coincidence, can it? Did Herbert have a child with another woman around the same time as me?”
