Chapter 51:
Hearing this, I had to accept my fate.
Fortunately, I hadn’t hurt the baby earlier. The only thought running through my mind at that moment was that I couldn’t lose the game. I had completely forgotten that I was pregnant.
As soon as the bell rang, signaling the end of the game, I stood there thinking, “Could it be that the last-place team has to pay for two mobile phones? Oh my God! That’s the latest model!”
Finally, the host spoke up.
“Everyone, I now announce that the last punishment of this game is pouring a bucket of ice water!”
Although it was spring, I knew I’d catch a cold if I was doused with ice water.
“Are you ready?” the host shouted.
Without waiting for a response, someone immediately came forward with a large bucket of ice water. A staff member placed a chair in front of me and Herbert.
There were so many ice cubes. If all of them fell on me, what would happen to the baby? What if I fell?
While I was lost in thought, trying to figure out how to refuse, Herbert was already standing in front of me.
Bella’s POV:
Herbert quickly removed his suit and draped it over my head. Then, he extended his arms and pulled me into his embrace, holding me tightly against his chest.
I opened my eyes and found it was dark, but his arms were strong, and my forehead was pressed against his chin. I inhaled deeply, taking in the pleasant scent of him.
Herbert felt like a heavy mountain, but in the best way. His presence gave me a deep sense of attachment and security. My heart swelled with warmth. It seemed that I didn’t hate this man as much anymore, and his scent was surprisingly comforting.
“Bring some water!” the host called out, and soon after, a bucket of ice water was poured down.
I heard the sound of running water, but none of it landed on me. I wrapped my arms around his waist, holding on tight. I silently prayed that the ice water wouldn’t pour on him too much. I feared the big boss might get sick.
Then the host said, “Mr. Wharton is truly a great boss who cares about his employees. He would rather pour all the ice water on himself than let his female employees suffer. His employees are truly lucky to have such a good boss.”
A few seconds later, Herbert gently released me. I quickly pulled my arms away from his waist. My suit was drenched, but thankfully, only my hair and clothes were slightly wet. Herbert, on the other hand, was completely soaked. Seeing him like that, a wave of gratitude washed over me.
“Your review wasn’t bad,” he suddenly said.
“What? I didn’t get it for a moment.”
Herbert’s lips curved into a smile, and he gave me a knowing look. Then, he grabbed his wet suit and turned to leave.
I stood there, a little dazed.
