“Herbert, who do you think you are? Why should I listen to you? Let me go, or I’ll shout!”
His words and his eyes were enough to completely provoke my emotions. I tried to shake off his hand, then stepped forward, determined to have nothing more to do with him.
As soon as I passed him, he quickly reached out and covered my mouth.
“Mm-mm!”
His hand was large, almost suffocating me. I stared at him in fear, but he didn’t release me. Instead, he dragged me into the bathroom.
I didn’t know what he wanted to do, but I struggled, yet I was no match for him. The bathroom was empty. Panic set in as I kicked at his legs with my high heels, but it was useless.
Herbert pulled me into a bathroom stall and locked the door. The cramped space felt suffocating. There was just the toilet and a tiny space for the two of us to stand. It was too tight, too oppressive. His hand still covered my mouth, making it harder to breathe. I glared at him, grabbed his coat collar with one hand, and patted his chest with the other, indicating that he should let go of me as soon as posible.
Herbert pressed me against the wall, his body mere inches from mine. My heart pounded instantly.
“Promise me you won’t make a fuss, and I’ll let you go,” he said in a low, patient voice, his gaze fixed on mine.
In this situation, I had no choice but to nod. Seeing my agreement, he slowly removed his hand from my mouth.
The moment his hand lifted, I seized my chance.
“Help!” I shouted as loudly as I could.
I just wanted to get away from him. I refused to let him control me.
But before I could say another word, Herbert’s hand was back over my mouth.
“Mmph—”
This time, his grip was firmer, making it nearly impossible to struggle.
He didn’t give me a chance to resist. His body leaned in closer, pinning me between him and the wall.
My eyes widened in fear as I stared at him. I had no idea what he intended to do.
Then, his deep voice whispered near my ear.
“Bella, I know I shouldn’t force you, but I just want to talk. Please, give me this chance.”
He hesitated for a moment before adding, “I want to talk to you about Lucas.”
Lucas.
The boy he had adopted.
I liked Lucas too, but in the end, I had no connection to him. What was there to talk about?
“Lucas misses you very much,” Herbert continued.
