But Jane, as always, had something to say.
“Bella, Mr. Wharton really loves Lucky.”
Hearing that, I slowed down my chewing.
Looking at my daughter, I found myself lost in thought about her future.
That night, Klein returned with everything we needed. He stayed with us until almost midnight before finally heading home.
I took a few days off from work and stayed in the hospital with Lucky for three more days.
That morning, Klein arrived to pick us up.
I carried Lucky in my arms while Jane handled our belongings. After completing the discharge formalities, Klein walked with us out of the hospital.
“You’re so busy with work, you didn’t have to come. I could’ve just taken a taxi with Jane,” I said apologetically as we walked.
Klein reached out and took Lucky from my arms. Laughing, he said, “I’m here to welcome Lucky home from the hospital—not you.”
Hearing that, I immediately shut my mouth.
Klein walked ahead, carrying Lucky, while I followed behind him, Jane trailing after us.
On the way to the parking lot, Klein kept playing with Lucky, making her giggle.
Suddenly, in a small, soft voice, she said, “Daddy… Daddy.”
Both Klein and I froze.
Lucky had only ever called me “Mama.” She had never said anything else before.
We were both stunned—and thrilled.
Klein turned to me, his face full of excitement.
“Did you hear that? Lucky called me Daddy!”
“Lucky, you’re amazing!”
Overwhelmed with joy, Klein lifted Lucky high into the air, spinning her around. She laughed uncontrollably, her giggles filling the air.
For a moment, the world around us faded, and all that remained were our smiles and Lucky’s pure, uncontainable happiness.
Bella’s POV:
Klein turned to look at me. I stared at him, clenching my right hand into a fist. At that moment, I gathered my courage, but my legs trembled slightly. After making this decision, I knew I would be saying goodbye to the past. I had to start a new life, and Lucky would need to start a new life too. Klein stared at me for a moment before saying, “Let’s go inside and talk.”
“Yes.”
I nodded. Klein turned and took out his key, opening the door. After he entered, I followed him in and closed the door behind me. Slowly, I walked up to Klein, raised my head to meet his gaze, and said, “Klein, I accept your suggestion.”
Hearing this, Klein stared at me, frowning, unable to react.
“What do you mean?”
