“Are you really my sister? Or not? You humiliated me today!”
She threw a small red box at my face. The sharp corner struck my eye, sending a flash of pain through me.
I winced, touching my stinging eye with one hand while catching the box with the other.
“Betty, what’s wrong with you?” I demanded.
“Don’t you know what you just did?” she snapped.
“What did I do? Explain it to me clearly!”
My patience was wearing thin.
What was she trying to pull? Did she think I was that easy to bully?
My mother rushed over, stepping between us.
“Can’t the two of you talk this out calmly? Why do you have to fight?”
“Mom, you can see how she treats me,” I said angrily as I sat down.
She had already caused such a scene today—I might as well let Mom know everything. I was tired of pretending. It was exhausting and unbearable.
My mother turned to Betty with a stern expression.
“Betty, your attitude is unacceptable. How can you speak to Bella like that? Apologize to her now!”
