Chapter 438:
I crawled forward, grabbed her arm, and cried, “Mom, don’t you want to talk to me?”
At that moment, my mother seemed to snap out of her daze. She looked at the baby in her arms with a hint of distaste and said bitterly, “Bella, what else can I say?”
“Mom…” I cried, feeling a great pain when I saw the disappointment in her eyes.
She continued, “You’re a strong, hardworking girl. I thought you would never do something so foolish. I can pretend not to hear how people are talking about you, but what about your future? Have you ever thought about these problems?”
“Do you know how difficult it is to be a single mother?”
Mom pushed the baby back into my arms and walked to her room.
I knelt on the ground for a long time, holding Lucky in my arms. I thought my mother would soften and let me get up after seeing me kneel for a while.
But this time, I was wrong. The door to her bedroom stayed closed, and it was a long time before she came out.
In the end, I had no choice but to carry Lucky back to my room and bring our luggage in. No matter how unhappy my mother was, I had to stay here with Lucky for now, because there was really nowhere else for us to go.
In the following days, I felt miserable.
Mom didn’t want to talk to me. She ignored Lucky, but when she prepared meals, she would still make them for me.
In this way, I felt somewhat satisfied, though my mother was still angry. I was sure she would eventually understand me.
One day, I was feeding Lucky with a bottle of milk. Because my body had been weak after the delivery, I didn’t have enough milk. More than half of Lucky’s food depended on formula.
But sometimes, Lucky would throw up milk, and it made me very distressed. Every time she did, I felt afraid and nervous because I didn’t know how to handle it.
Especially after seeing the news online about a baby who had died from choking on milk, my anxiety grew even worse.
I carefully fed her, but she still vomited. She kept vomiting. I continued holding her and gently patting her back, but nothing seemed to help.
Lucky’s vomiting was severe, and she kept coughing.
“Mom! Mom! Come!” I shouted in panic.
My mother, who was cooking in the kitchen, immediately rushed to my bedroom.
“What’s wrong? What happened?” she asked, sounding anxious and worried.
“Mom, she vomited milk. It seems very serious!” I replied urgently.
“Let me see.”
Mom set the cooking spoon aside and immediately took Lucky in her arms, patting her back, but she was still coughing.
I quickly took Lucky back into my arms and said, “No, I have to take her to the hospital!”
