Chapter 41:
I didn’t want to talk to her at all, so I snorted and turned back to my seat.
“Who’s in charge of the accounts? I’m here to collect the payment,” she said.
“Here!” Joey raised her finger and pointed at her desk. Emma Briden placed the receipt in front of Joey, squeezed out a smile, and said, “Miss, I’m here to collect the bill today. Please do me a favor!”
Joey glanced at the receipts and said, “I’m sorry, but I can’t.”
“How are you going to write it down? These are the words Mr. Wharton just signed. Don’t tell me you still don’t recognize his signature?” Emma Briden’s voice grew sharp.
Bella’s POV:
Emma’s attitude really annoyed Joey. Joey pointed to the work guide posted on the wall and said very seriously, “It’s very clear that we need to make an appointment three days in advance to pay the bill. We also need to pay in advance. There is a limit to how much we pay every day. Such a big company needs to handle payments daily. Without a plan, it will become very chaotic.”
Hearing this, Emma was so angry that her face turned pale. She reached out, took the list, glared at Joey, and walked away in high heels.
After Emma left, Joey cursed under her breath.
Bella was about to go forward to comfort Joey when her colleague, A, suddenly walked up to her and said mysteriously, “Okay, don’t be angry. She has a powerful background. Be careful in the future. She might sue you!”
“What’s her background?” Joey asked her colleague.
“I heard that Emma Briden’s eldest uncle and Mr. Wharton’s father were old comrades-in-arms. In fact, he even saved Mr. Wharton’s father’s life. Do you think that’s why he gave all the company’s unexpected insurance to Emma Briden?” her colleague A whispered.
“Right, right, right. I’ve heard about it too. Recently, she’s been coming to the Wharton Group to see Mr. Wharton. It seems that Emma Briden has a good relationship with him!” her colleague B chimed in.
I couldn’t help but shake my head. Emma was just like her mother. My boss had gone too far by using the honest uncle to do such business. My colleague A immediately grinned, “Most of the business is secondary. What’s really important is hooking up with him.”
“Is his taste that bad? I don’t think any part of her body is real,” one of the female colleagues in the office joked.
“That’s right. Women who want to climb into Mr. Wharton’s bed are a dime a dozen,” another added.
“I usually laugh at these comments, but today I feel uncomfortable. Is it because I’ve already gotten a marriage certificate with Herbert?”
But I knew very well that the reason he married me was just for the sake of the child in my belly. Otherwise, there wouldn’t have been no wedding, and it was very likely that I’d be divorced after giving birth to the child.
At this moment, Joey suddenly said, “Perhaps he’s already married!”
I suddenly became a little nervous, fearing that she might say something more. So, I immediately grabbed her arm.
“No way! How did you know?”
The female colleagues all turned their attention to Joey. I looked at her too, tightening my grip, not wanting to expose anything.
