Chapter 409:
My words turned into sharp blades, striking at his most vulnerable spot. The effect was immediate. His expression darkened further, and without warning, he stepped forward, grabbed my arm, and pulled me up from the sofa.
“What do you think you’re doing?”
Fear coiled inside me.
I was pregnant now. No matter how angry he was, I was terrified he might hurt my child.
“Come back with me, or the consequences will be severe,” Herbert warned.
“I have nothing to do with you anymore. I’m not going anywhere with you!”
I knew his purpose. He probably didn’t care about me, just the baby in my belly.
“You’re pregnant with my child. You must come back with me,” Herbert said, dragging me away.
I wrapped my arms around the couch, refusing to let go.
“Klein! Klein!” I shouted, my voice rising.
Herbert’s gaze flicked to the shirt on the sofa, then over to the bathroom. His expression grew even darker.
“You’re pregnant, and you’re still doing this? Aren’t you worried about the baby? You could cause a miscarriage,” he accused me suddenly.
“What are you talking about?” I didn’t understand what he meant.
Herbert shouted, “Klein, come out!”
I could hear the sounds of water stop inside the bathroom. A few moments later, the bathroom door opened, and a figure in a white bathrobe stepped out in a panic. His wet hair was dripping with water, and the bathrobe hung loosely around him, revealing his muscular chest.
Herbert wasted no time. He stormed forward, grabbing Klein by the collar of his bathrobe. In a fierce voice, he demanded, “Klein, why are you coveting my woman?”
“Is Bella your woman?” Klein retorted.
“What about Caroline? Last I checked, you and Bella have been divorced for quite some time!”
Herbert was visibly enraged. He shoved Klein against the wall, his fury boiling over as he roared, “She’s pregnant with my child!”
Klein let out a cold laugh.
“Then can you marry her? Can you take responsibility for the child in her belly?”
Klein’s words were sharp, and as soon as he finished speaking, my eyes turned to Herbert’s face. Deep down, I too wanted to know the answer.
Though I shouldn’t have hoped for anything, a small part of me still did.
But that hope quickly faded.
Herbert didn’t answer right away. He stood there in silence.
I already knew the answer.
He wouldn’t marry me. He wouldn’t take responsibility for me.
